GPS - What do you have? 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I want to add a GPS to my r*. I was looking at motorcycle specific ones, but they are a little pricey. I was wondering if any of you have a GPS that works with the roadie and does not have any vibration problems. I searched the forum but could not find much. Thanks in advance as always. Pman

I have a tom tom ONE (third edition) with a RAM mount. I need to add a 12volt outlet to run it for more then 2 or 3 hours but if I have a trip shorter then that its perfect. I really like it and ive never had any problems with it.

I use a Lowrance 350c with RAM mount. The 2 Li-Ion batteries stay charged for about 12 hours. Has a built-in MP3 player so I can have tunes along the way. I've had it for a couple of years. It isn't waterproof though, but it doesn't rain much where I ride. I keep a Zip Lock bag in my windshield bag just in case I get surprised some day.

Two guys I ride with use Garmin Nuvi's (I think); they're motorcycle-specific, but they bought them factory refurbished off eBay for about half the retail price. They use RAM mounts and have not had any problems with them as far as I know, except learning how to load and use them correctly.

I did Geo Caching before riding so all I did was buy a motorcycle mount for my Magellan Sport Track Map hand held unit. I kinda think that's the best way to go. I can ride all the way to Missouri on two AA batteries, and if I don't want it on the bike, I take the two nuts off and wallah!
I have seen some others that cost WAY more than mine, but you know what, mine works just as good. It doesn't talk to you, but hell, I couldn't hear it anyway...lol.

I use the Nuvi 360 with a Ram mount, battery life is just fine. The Nuvi is not motorcycle specific nor waterproof, I just carry a zip lock bag in case. I keep mine muted, couldn't hear it anyhow, this helps save battery life. The bluetooth is pretty convenient, if you get a call the number comes up on the screen then you can choose to stop and return the call or not. I consider it a toy since 99% of the time I know where I'm going.

I believe the refurbs Soba is talking about are the Garmin StreetPilot 2610's, they're an out of production waterproof model that guys swear by. You can find them refurbed sometimes on Ebay and some electronics sites for I think under $200. You have to hard wire them unlike the battery powered one. If you're not looking for MC specific models (which can be pricey as you stated), look for one that doesn't have a hard drive which can fail from the vibrations on a bike.

For further info try out these sites.

Garmin 276C here. Modded the mount slightly and bolted it onto the windshield at one the the center screws. Just using battery only now, but will soon install a 12 v lighter socket. The Garmin will run about 10 hours on it's internal battery.

It does, just don't really feel like listening to her (the gps gal) while I ride. That's one reason I go riding........

I bought a MIO for my truck...it is great ..comes with a suction cup mount and 12v outlet adapter...

bought it at business depot/staples

It suction mounted under my rear view mirror in the truck...the mount has grip lever...and grabs right on tight...
GPS

Since I dont do a lot of out of town nav I have yet to use it on the bike ..but it suction mounted to the speedo face really well over the speedo..it tells ya how fast yer goin anyway... and of course I have 12v outlet on the bike....so when I decide to go travelling..I have a gps for the bike as well
