Difficulty removing the seat 3 Months, 1 Week ago
|

I have had extreme difficulty removing the seat. It seems as though the latch does not work correctly. I have attempted to lubricate the mechanism but still have problems getting the thing to unlatch like it should. Has anyone else had this problem and if so,,,,,how did they solve it.

I just push down on the seat at the tank and then turn the key and it comes right off, If I didnt do that I would twist the key off!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep! Next time you go to lube it... get something that will let you get grease into the "reaches" of he latch... as well as the latch where it meets the "loop"... Try white lithium grease too... Also, spray a little (the WD-40 of your choice...) down the key slot...

Had the same problem. Once you get the seat off, lube the latching mechanism real good with WD-40. Fixed mine, good luck.

I have had the same problem no matter how I pushed on the seat or turned the key it would not release. I know you have to press down on the key and turn it to the left but it did not work. I ran picture frame wire through the part of that lock that releases the catch and at the end I crimped a metal fastner to the end to keep the wire from slipping out. I then ran the wire down the down pipe of the seat and made a loop. So now in the rear instance it does not open I just tug on the wire and it opens like a dream

Ron, pressing down on the key and then turning it left allows you to lock your forks only. Don't press down on the key, turn it slightly to the left, and the latch should release. Maybe that's what you meant anyway.

I'm a newbie and was having trouble with mine too, til I read the manual where it says do not push down on the key. I was working on the bike today and found that the most effective way with mine involved gently pushing the seat down while turning the key.

I should hang up my keys another senior moment. I got it wrong after five years. sheessss.
I was doing it correctly even the dealer had trouble removing it and pressing the seat down did not get it off finally it popped off. I think that there is a problem with the pully system on some of the bikes and turning the key is not always strong enough to pull the latch.
But as I said in the off chance it gets jammed I pull on the wire. I think the reason it happens to me is that I have the tool bag overloaded and maybe it is putting upward preasure on the seat

Had the same trouble with mine. Finally got tired of hoping the seat would release. Installed a cable with knob that comes out just below front corner of seat. Never have any trouble getting seat off now. Its a quick easy fix for anyone who cares to do same. Just attach cable to same lever the original release is on. I didnt remove my original release cable so if I want to spend some time in suspense I still can.
