My family an I are renting a house on Kezar lake in Maine late October. I was goin' to tow my ride up there if it was working by then, but the association outlawed bikes
Probably because of the roar breaking across the lake

I, too, recently rode around in New England--Up-state New York, Mass, Vermont, New Hampsire...some really great riding out there.
I call that my ride around the block.
I ride out, of NY into Mass., then over into Vermont, up to New Hampshire and back through Mass. to NY.
From where I live it's around 300 miles total.
Soba, glad you enjoyed it up here, did you see any Moose?

Nope. Didn't see any moose. It's taking me a while to get pack to checking the forum regularly. Got back Monday night and hit the ground running. Work is nutso right now, and I'm leaving for a business trip this Sunday to Wisconsin, so I'm up to my eyeballs in eyeballs at work and at home. Maybe next week (after Wednesday) will be slower paced.
Yeah, right.

The pleasure in our meeting was certainly mutual my friend. I am glad you made it home OK. Hey, I only made a two hour round trip you came from Maryland. About 10 minutes north of Portland we got caught in a down pour. By the time we could get our suits on all they did was seal the sauna in The next time you come we see if we can get you a little father north only take me 30 to 40 minutes but with the wife pulling on the rains its an hour
Till next ride
your friend Dearman

A complete recap would be far too long, but some highlights:
Day 1: Maryland to Bennington, VT. Neat little town with life-size figures here and there around town that include a window washer, a street sweeper, a little girl swing around a Stop sign, and a beat cop. Eat breakfast at the Blue Benn diner if you ever visit. The trip up Rt 97 along the Delaware was terrific.
Day 2: Rt 100 through Vermont. What a great ride. Road was a bit rough, but the scenery well made up for it. Stopped for ice cream at Ben & Jerry's but had to skip the tour. Finished the day in Rouses Point NY, where VT, NY, and Canada come together. Rode 100 miles or so round-trip to Montreal for dinner. Great food, great time.
Day 3: Vt through NH to Portland ME. Rode the rural roads of NH into the White Mountains, with occasional drizzle. Again, the roads were a bit chewed up, but.... Ended up at Mt Washington. The guy at the entrance said it was raining at the top, 20 mph wind, with visibility less than 100 feet because of cloud cover. Well, let me tell you - it was all smooth sailing for the first 4 miles or so going up. The last two miles, the visibility was less than 15 feet, completely socked in, and raining. If it hadn't been for the 4-way flashers on the C50 in front of me, I don't know if I'd have made it at all. I could see the yellow center stripe on the road and the white shoulder strip. There was about 4" more of asphalt beyond that, then a few inches of loose chippings then 100s of foot drop. I have to admit, I was terrified! On top of that, the cars up ahead of the pack kept slowing and stopping, so my clutch and brake and hands and feet got quite a workout trying to keep the bike upright and negotiate the snaky turns at 5-10 mph...and the no visibility thing on top of that. Man, was I glad to reach the summit. At least there, we could see 50 feet or more. Stayed at the summit for maybe 1/2 hour waiting for the heart to slow down, the blood and feeling to get back into my hands, and for the clouds to break a bit. The ride down was scary but much better. Still couldn't see but a couple of feet for the first mile, but then the clouds broke, then what a view! Made it to Portland late that night, saw the Portland Head Light, and got to meet dearman and his lovely bride.
Day 4: Rode into Cambridge/Boston, down to Plymouth MA, then on to Newport RI for lunch. The goal was Flo's Clam Shack, but we didn't get that far. One of our riders had a problem with the sub-frame on his Hyabusa, plus the place was a madhouse with holiday weekend beachgoers and water sports enthusiasts. We grabbed a quick bite and headed up to East Haddam CT and toured the Gillette Castle. Really cool. Our buddy with bike troubles parted ways at I-95 and headed home. We continued on to New Haven for the night,
Day 5: Left New Haven and headed to Bethel NY, where we visited the site of the 1969 Woodstock "Happening." From there it was through PA and back into MD.
Total mileage was 1,996.3, with less than 400 miles of interstate. Cut out half our initial itinerary (just took longer than expected), but a great ride nonetheless. Lots more to talk about, but who's got a week to read the post?
