FYI Progressive Suspension Spring 2 Months ago
Earlier this summer I replaced the stock shock spring with the 850lb-1200lb Progressive spring and was wondering about adjustment limits, whether they are the same as the stock limits. And since I'm going to be pulling a trailer while carrying a passenger I want to stiffen the spring to almost it's max setting.

So I called Progressive to ask them and the guy questioned me about installing the Progressive spring on the stock shock. When I confirmed that that is what I had done, he said that that is not a recommended application for this spring. He said that someone outside of Progressive Suspension must've figured out that it fits the stock shock, so the only recommendation he could make as far as adjustment limits was to stay within OEM limits.

So, for those that have done this same mod, have you had any problems? And what adjustment limits have you used? Right now, after stiffening the spring, I'm at 2 inches from the base plate of the spring to the center of the shock mount, which is almost the max setting. That may not make sense, but if you've adjusted the shock you'll know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, just wondering...........

I would think that if the springs are the same length, then it shouldn't have any effect on the shock other than it won't be run in and out as much..IMHO..

I have kept mine stiffened up since I put on the progressive, and lowered 1 1/2" with no problems.

Thats just it; they aren't the same length. The Progressive is about a half inch shorter. If you look on Phat Performance's website, which is where I got it, and read the description of the spring, it says it (the Progressive spring) will lower the bike approx. half an inch. That's why I was wondering about adjustment limits.

Ok, Well, I don't think a half shorter will hurt anything if you don't mind being lowered,,I was more concerned if it were longer..being longer and more powerful could possibly break the shock. you should be ok..wish I could help you more, I do know that a lotta folks have beefed up the spring with no problems that I've heard...

I wouldn't worry about it the shock has a rubber "bumper" so you can't really overtighten it. Also it's a 1/2" shorter so you won't loosen it too much either.
So, IMHO, tighten it where you are happy and ride!
