Myrtle Beach Ordinances 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
First off, the wife job is sending her to Myrtle Beach for a 4 day siminar, she is flying and i'm thinking bike ride!!! Just doing alittle research finding stuff to do while there I was on the MyrtleBeachHarley web site and there was a link to a new city ordance about loud exhaust and especially hits motorcycles. It sounds really strict. While reading this ordance I gathered that any aftermarket exhaust would be illegal becouse they don't have the epa crap stamped on them from the factory....I know, when I orded my exhaust I saw the disclaimer saying these should be used on closed course only, bla, bla, .........My question goes out to anybody who lives around Myrtle Beach........Are they that strict? Will my bike get impounded? Should I avoid making this trip over this law?......If they are that strict I will ride somewheres else to spend my money!

we have some towns with sound ordinances here. They aren't that mean though. As long as you aren't rolling the throttle hard, cracking your pipes, they'll leave you alone. They know bikers bring a lot to their economy. Nice compromise between the residents and the bikers.

With that said, the town I'm talking about is not Myrtle Beach.

Can't you print an EPA label

You see the occasional "Sound Ordinance Enforced" signs in some towns around here but for the most part if you behave yourself you don't get hassled. The most draconian outlook around here that I've heard of is in Stillwater, MN.

Here's an article about a couple living in Myrtle Beach who have a lawsuit going against the city.

Lawsuit seeks to void anti-motorcycle laws

It sounds like the city gets more than a quarter of a million people visiting for the three bike rallies throughout the year. That's gotta be a lot of revenue.

What was disturbing and makes some of the ordinances a little more understandable is the article states that a college kid was shot over a parking space earlier this year.

Give me the open road over that kind of garbage any day.

I live 26 miles south of MB. I do not go there unless absolutely necessary. There are plenty of biker bars around here that I like better anyway. I might add, I too prefer the open road to the clusterf* of bike week, but I hate to see it go away just because of some self-rightous, ignorant, racist mayor and a few of his cronies. There are many of us here who feel the same way.

I've read recently that Myrtle Beach is trying to run the MC rallies out of town. Apparently the residents there aren't too biker friendly. If I remember correctly, there's supposed to be something on the ballot this year that makes these rallies illegal in that city & something about a tax increase to make up for the last revenue. I haven't followed it that closely but that's what I remember. I'm pretty sure I saw it in the AMA's "state watch" government area. I say screw 'em, I'll spend my money elsewhere. There's plenty of other great MC rallys in this country.

I went in the Yamaha shop down there on 501 and a couple of the harley shops. The owners were genuinely concerned. I think you will see the end of bike week there and its a shame. those people are just trying to make a living and it would be awful to go down there and spend alot of money for a trip to the beach and not be able to ride your bike. What the hell happened to this country. We're now politically correct on everything. I think it all started when a man or woman couldnt enjoy a cigarette where they wanted. Granted smoking in an enclosed space isnt right cause you're hurting others health, but now they stick you in a little box lol. Just an example. We're giving up more and more freedoms to satisfy 1 or 2 people. This is America for gods sake. Land of the FREE home of the brave, anyone remember that. People that are this damn sensitive need to have the hell smacked out of them. This country needs to grow a pair and quick. Gonna stop now, gettin upset about way more than bike week lol. later

My Son can't take a Peanut butter sandwich, or Granola bars or 90% of the lunch snacks available in the stores, to his school of 1200 kids, because 1 or 2 are deathly allergic.
