NYC night ride 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Started out to ride today but things kept going wrong so I said screw it and blew the ride off. Tonight around 7pm I said I am going riding. I decided to go into Manhattan to a biker/tourist bar. Everyone must have taken normal pills tonight. Coming down the West Side HWY. it was stop and go traffic yet nobody tailgated me. I had to merge several times and people were real nice and let me in. I asked a cop where the bar was he gave me directions. When I came to the bar I heard a cop hit the siren. I thought I was going to be hassled. It was the cop I asked following me and all he wanted was to point the place out to me. When I pulled to the side I thought here I go getting a ticket, what a pleasent surprise. Hung out at the bar a while had a brew and went home again everyone was driving like they just came out of driving school. My question is did I enter the twilght zone

Ron I don't know how to respond to that.
I've been to NYC and driven my car there many times.
Absolutely nothing you mentioned sounds like the Apple

Re:NYC night ride 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Its starting to get a bit chilly for a night ride isn't it cruiser? I've a brother east of Albany, and west of Pittsfield Ma on the NY state line, and its getting pretty cold up there to be riding at night. Heck, its getting pretty cold to be riding here in southern maryland at night or early morning. Have to put on the electric liner and turn up the controller.
I think that NY drivers (upstate...not the city) aren't too bad. At least N.Y. has a keep right except to pass or slower traffic keep right rule. Maryland has none that I'm aware of. Nothing more frustrating to be out on the road at 0400, with one car in the left lane doing 57 and nothing in the right lane for a mile....but don't get me started.
Glad it was a good night all in all....

Interesting. I'm east of Albany and west of Pittsfield, about 20 miles from the state borders.

You WERE in the Twilight Zone. LOL I ride up the West Side Hwy from the Battery Tunnel to get to work at the Javits ... and I have never experienced anything closely resembling what you describe here (except that it's ALWAYS bumper to bumper - kinda like Times Square). I actually think that that the TV show guy in the Cash Cab cut me off once! (Being on camera has got to be worse than talking on a cell phone.)

Last night was a tad chilly. Where ya from in NY and which bar did ya go to? (Hogs & Heffers? Red Rock? Shakers? )

yeah Thom I'm origionally from Averill Park area, out route 43 in an area called the "Alps", about a mile after the 66-43 split. My brother is in Stephentown out on 22, south of petersburgh. He used to plow route 7 and 2 and all around Rennselear county. I go up every deer season for a couple of days...noticed its supposed to get down in the 20's tonight.
I haven't ridden my R* up there yet althought i almost did last week with the good weather and the 4 day weekend.

Wow small world. I live in Brunswick but spent most of my days in the AP area. All my step-daughters went through the AP school system and when I was married We lived in Duhnam Hollow.
I rode through Stephentown yesterday. I also hung out in the Snyders lake area in a little bar called the Wagon Wheel.

dunham hollow...no way...on 43 or Dunham Hollow Road? We used to play ball at the community center. you could get to my house by going around on Taborton Road. My family stills lives in and around that area...one on Horse Haven road above west steventown church and another on Alps Mt Road at my families old place. I hung around crooked lake as thats where my girlfrend's parents had a camp and we ended up with gills. Don't think i ever went to the wagon wheel, but I'm sure my brother has. he patronized a lot of them when he was younger. Where did you graduate from? I graduated from Averill park in 70, then went into the army for 10 years and got a job after that with DOD and now live in maryland.

On 43 across from Taborton Rd. In fact if you went straight out my driveway you went across 43 onto Taborton Rd.
I went to Heatly in Green Island (long story).
I got my swimming merit badges in boy scouts at crooked lake for the 5 and 10 mile swim.
Also swam at the crooked lake house in the winter.
Most of the folks I rode with back in the 70's graduated from AP, but they are all around 6 years older then us.

I live up in Yonkers. It was not to bad I had a long sleeve shirt and short sleeve over that two sweat shirts a liner in my leather jacket and long johns. I had to get out just needed the ride. I went to hogs and heffers. Only bike there but I got in for free since I was a biker. the bar maids where hot but that was about it.
Where are you in N.Y.?
Oh and today I am back from the twilight zone two blocks out from my house a women cuts into my lane without signaling. I tell her you should watch what she is doing she replies I should be more careful. I felt like (never mind lets not go there.) I had a camera I should have gotten off the bike taken pictures of the license plate and her mug just to play with her head that would have made here worry( why is he taking pic. what is he going to do with them.)
What a difference a day makes LOL

Ron
