License Plate Ticket 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Rode out to Biketoberfest last Saturday and had a good time until I started to head up to Destination Daytona. Anyone who has headed up there from Daytona on US 1 knows how backed up traffic gets in front of the Iron Horse Saloon. Well there were about five cops sitting there in the median pulling people over for any infraction they could see. And you couldn't do anything about it because you're at a stand still in traffic.

Well the cop gave me a ticket ($91) for having a side mount license plate. The bracket I have holds the plate verticaly beside the rear tire. He said a new law that passed October 1st, says that every license plate has to sit perfectly horizontally, with a light, able to be seen up to 50 feet back.

He also told me that he could have gave me a $1,000 ticket for it if he wanted to. I think he might have been full of it on that one, $1,000 seems very excessive. I thought it was one of the stupidest traffic tickets I have ever gotten. My tag is very visible from more that 50 feet back. I don't see how it being mounted vertical or horizontal matters.

Either way, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Don't know for sure, but I would bet the vertical plate is illegal in a lot of places...the establishment sees it as bad attitude. kinda like the old days when they passed a helmet law and folks would strap the helmet to their knee....that didn't last too long..

Again, honorable LEO's being turned into tax collectors. While in my naive youth I thought about going into that line of work. I think if I had that I'd be looking to a career change about now. It sorely pains me to see them having to stoop to that level of "work".

Protecting and serving is one thing...taxing and collecting is another thing.

In my area, I was stopped and warned once.

Not what many horizontal sidemounts available.

Yeah Mark7, I felt like it was more of a revenue thing for them. I mean, come on, there are alot more imprortant things they should have been looking out for.
