This is normal. They are all like that. I can't remember why

I read somewhere that there is a 10% tolerance for the speedo's in regulations and that the manufactures face stiff penalties for speedo's that read slower than the actual speed you are moving, I could take the time to find the article again, but I not going too...

Yami must be really afraid of those penalties to go so far in the other direction. It's so bad that I don't know the last time that I even looked at either of my speedos. On the Roadie I just go with the flow (or faster usually) and on the Venture I use the GPS.

I usually do 5-10 mph over the speed limit, when traffic allows, or else I'll pick someone who isn't driving like a jerk and use them to pace.

I'm going to purchase the "speed-healer", but until then, I guess I'll just use my TomTom GPS on the longer trips, and yes, I have the RAM mount and I also added a 12VDC plug in to keep it charged on the long trips. (also works with my cell phone charger )

Again, Thanks everyone for all the usefull advice, and it looks like I might have increased the sales for GPS

Keeping 2 down in Green Bay

I did a test with the GPS today and the speedo is 5 mph faster than the 12 Sats that were tracking me. I lay my faith in the GPS.

On a side note the milage is off by four miles every 100 on my odometer. Basically it's 1 for every 25. This is the second test like this that I have done so I am fairly certain that my 17,000 miles I currently have on the Star really should read around 10,200. Now if I can only convince the next buyer with that data.

The speedometers are off because Japanese miles are shorter than American miles.

I haven't had a bike yet where the speedo didn't read faster than I was actually going. So there isn't any way you will get pulled over for speeding because the speedo is off unless you are ignoring the speedo and just plain going over the speed limit. I'm guessing it's a liability thing because of different countries regulations. Reading fast is safe. Reading slow isn't. But that's just a guess. I'm pretty sure if you fix the speedo you'll mess up the odo. Speaking for myself I can't see breaking one thing just to fix something else.

Re:GPS Speed vs Speedometer? 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I still have to argue that any gauge is supposed to be "Accurate" in order to be effective. The if the speedo says I'm doing 65mph, I want to be doing 65mph. I don't want to have to "Guess" at my speed and tell the nice LEO that I "Guessed" wrong on what my Actual speed was because the Manufacture didn't want the "Liability" of having me speed.
It just doesn’t make sense.

For now, I'll ride with the GPS when ever I can. I will be checking the Odometer as well, and if it's off, I will probably raise hell with YAMI and see if I can get them to offer a fix under warranty, or a letter for me to present to the next LEO or buyer that it's intentionally inaccurate.
