Iron Butt Ride? 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I have only heard of what's called the "Iron Butt Ride" From what I've been told, if you ride 1000 miles in 1 day and it can be verified by someone not related like a cop, or some sort of official, that you can get an "Iron Butt" pin?

Does anyone know about this? What are the rules? I might have to take a ride this weekend and see if I can do it? 1000 miles from Green Bay should get me far enough south to be warm.

Darn..

There are websites on the iron butt rules and forms to be completed. They have fairly strick rules to qualify but anyone can do it. read their site and get your ducks in a row if you want the patch. It is something to be proud of!

I did one. Your start time is the time of your receipt for gas. Doesn't need to be signed by a cop. Just some witnesses that you were there and they should verify the odometer reading on you bike. This should be done just before you leave. It cannot be a fellow participant in the ride or a family member. We grabbed some clerks at the truck stop we started from. If I recall you need 2 or 3 people.

Keep receipts for all gas (they must be time/date stamped) and keep a log of where you stopped, how long, times, etc. Time stops at the end, you must get a time dated receipt at the end, (just get some gas). Get someone at the end to confirm you were there. Send receipts, log, map of route and registration form to them, along with your cash. You get a license plate backing (cool), sticker (its on my windshield) and ride pin.

See the website that javawave pointed out. Its not easy and I suggest you go with another biker to keep each other motivated. They have a bunch of other rides if you're insane (sorry, I mean so inclined).

No, its worse, The artic circle (Prudhoe Bay, AK) to Key West, FL. The 400+ miles from Prudhoe Bay to Fairbanks are on a gravel road and I don't think there's any gas stations for those 400 miles so, you'd have to take extra gas. Can only do the trip in July or August. Probably wise to ship it to Prudhoe Bay and ride your bike down, as opposed to having to ride up and back Wise to also think about a trailer to tow behind your bike to carry extra gas, clothing, camping gear, etc.

A youngin at work tried it a week or so ago on a sportster. I don't really know if he succeded cause he had to take 4 days off from work...couldn't move. I seen him today walking thru and was still kinda stiff.

Im old I guess, 1000 miles in a few days maybe!

I'm planning an Iron Butt ride in the spring down to Florida.
I figure if I could do 800 in the rain when I rode back from Fl. this year that 200 more won't be that big of a deal.
Besides once the roadie starts moving it's real hard to want to stop.

I have done several Iron Butts but have never made them "official" as I have never really intentionally set out to do one. They have all just kinda happened. Last one was last summer when wifey and I rode from just north of Jackson MS to southern FL.
