Birds....! 2 Months ago
Riding southbound on a county road this afternoon fighting a really heavy crosswind from west to east... doing about 60 when all of a sudden I see this huge - and I mean huge - flock of birds; the migrating kind of flock... looked to be starlings or such; they were gleaning an old bean field and were at the edge of it and down in the side ditch as well.

When I come roaring by they take off... when one went - they all went... and the strong wind sent them straight across my path - hundreds of birds - the sky was full of them - from the ground up to twenty - thirty feet or so into the air.

I put my head down behind the windshield toward the tank... and waited for the "splat" but not one bird... Thank GOD!

I was surrounded by them; it was one of most surreal experiences I have ever experienced. I thought sure I would hit not one - but several... and - nothing. Again; thank God.

Yes ... probably Starlings. Amazing to watch them staging in a field.

Your lucky they weren't seagulls. Seagulls are bigger and dumber. If they would have been seagulls, you surely would have come out of there with blood on your hands

It's good you didn't try to hide in a telephone booth.

had a flock of them come across at me from a corn field a few mornings ago. I got one right in the fairing. It is amazing to watch them in flight and how more of them do not run into each other in flight.

My coolest bird experience so far was riding up an interstate connector rode going to work one morning. A Canada goose settled in next to me, flying just above head height and maybe 5-10 feet off my shoulder and rode next to me for 5 miles or so. Must have thought I was trying to get the flock outa there.
