Fuel sending unit 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Just had to replace my regulator, alternator, and fuel sending unit on my 2000 R*. The shop I use builds high performance metric engines and he got me great prices, 1/2 of the OEM price, on the regulator and alternator from an aftermarket company. Turns out the fuel sending unit is on recall notice, so that gets replaced for free. My local dealer never told me about the recall.

Re:Fuel sending unit 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
This is all I could find for recalls on your year model.

Make: YAMAHA Model: ROAD STAR
Model Year: 2000
Manufacturer: YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION, USA Mfr's Report Date: OCT 11, 2006
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 06V397000 NHTSA Action Number: PE03038
Component: POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION
Potential Number of Units Affected: 20000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, CERTAIN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS MAY NOT MEET YAMAHA QUALITY-CONTROL STANDARDS, WHICH COULD ALLOW ABNORMAL WEAR THAT EVENTUALLY RESULTS IN A BROKEN RETAINING CIRCLIP.
Consequence:
IF THE CIRCLIP BREAKS, THE TRANSMISSION COULD LOCK UP, WHICH WOULD ALSO CAUSE THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH WITH INJURY OR DEATH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE CERTAIN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS WITH NEW ONES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 30, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-88-YAMAHA OR VISIT THEIR WEBSITE AT WWW.YAMAHA-MOTOR.COM.
Notes:
YAMAHA RECALL NO. 06-006. THIS IS AN EXPANSION OF A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN CONDUCTED DURING 2003 (PLEASE SEE 03V309). CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION¿S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
