Ticked offffffff 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Well In my last thread I mentioned I stripped my oil plug hole from over tightning the bolt.
So here I am with the oil out of my bike so I decide rather then take a chance of loosing the plug I called for a flat bed, curtousy of Progressive (free towing)
They came and got the bike on the flat bed did not have handle bar tie downs ran the straps through the front of the frame. I was worried if the straps would damage the light bar since it was touching it.

Well got the bike to the shop all looked ok. The shop put a heli coil in. Got it back and noticed a dent in the fender. Now to be fair I had a little dimple in it from a tool bag banging against the fender when I hit a bump but now it is a lot worse. True it is not noticable it is right under the light and just where the fender starts to curve.

I don't know if the tow company did it when they ran straps through the frame could it have compressed the forks to the point where the light/bar hit the fender, when going over bumps during towing.?

Or was it the shop tilting the bike so it could drill the hole and tap? Either way may bike my friend my companion is damaged. LOL

It makes me want to scream

Ron

Sorry about your bike cruiser. Sometimes WE learn things the expensive way. Last year when I changed plugs three came out with no trouble, the fourth one didn't. Short version I had to buy a back tap which only came in a pack of three sizes. $60 bucks. But I was able to re-thread the hole. I now am very careful putting my plugs in.

Put those spark plugs in with anti-seize compound on the threads... it'll never happen again!

I'm guessing you are more worriedd about the dent? There are lots of good methods to get out dents if it's not creased. Lots of good info already on this forum.

My guess would be if the tool bag dent is now bigger, then the tool bag caused it. Probably when the front was strapped down the forks were somewhat compressed making the bag ride closer to the fender and during the ride to the shop it bounced enough to cause a larger dent in your fender.
Just a guess but makes sense.
Rick

Hi Rick
No I had a little dent more like a dimple. Now I have a crease going and it is a lot bigger. The tool bag was removed many years ago as soon as I got the dimple dent. So it either happened in the shop or towing. My guess is towing they did not have handle bar strap so they ran the straps through the frame. When followoing the truck he made a turn over a corner sidwalk the bike bounced when the truck did. I think the fork must have compressed to the point where the llight hit the fender. Is that possible? or the straps themselves caused it since the tension was really great and it was close to th fender.
Not really important how it got there it is there.

From now on I go over the bike with the tower or shop top to bottom before and after!!
