My advice about anti seize compound on the spark plugs was to Greysnake... he related how he had a stuck spark plug and had to tap the plug hole cause it got bungered up about 7 posts back.

weird, that is what I replied to also. Maybe I'm just super slow today.
Either way I've used the sparkplug repair kit to fix a oil drain plug also. You can helicoil it with a T wrench and standard helicoil also if you want. Spark plug kit is pretty easy though.

If you lose the oil plug threads, isn't there a rubber plug that you can get and tighten it in the hole as a replacement?
I almost lost the plug by stripping the outside because it was so tight. I think that the PO had the shop do all the work and they cranked it down tight. To ease it out, I had to buy a new 6 point closed end wrench just for that purpose = about $10 at Sears (the only place I could find one).

It's the whole bi-metallic issue, putting steel spark plugs into aluminum heads for long periods of time. Anti-seize compound is just the ticket for that stuff you know you're going to pull one day.
And, there are rubber plugs for the oil drains, but I haven't seen any in a long time... try J.C Whitney, I'll bet they still carry 'em!

the drain plug on the R* is m14 x1.5 thread and spark plugs have a m14 x1.25 thread

So that's why screwin' a spark plug in the drain plug hole didn't work!
