Re:New Pipes for my Road star 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Hi Por2gee,

I have run V&H longshots on my bike since new and love the sound.
I have never run standard pipes, so I'm not sure about any difference in performance. One thing for sure, those standard pipes weigh a ton!
I have run the standard jetting for the last two years without any problems.
Just the other day I installed a K&N hi-flow air filter into the standard air-box and opened up the air box for better breathing. The spark plugs now show that the bike is running lean, and the wide-open-throttle test confirms this (bike still runs sweet though).
I am going to rejet the bike with the smallest possible increase in jet size to have the fuel/air mixture right. Petrol (gas) is too darn expensive to waste!
I will post the outcome.
I hope this helps.

Hello:

How did you "open up" the airbox? Did you try the Poor Man's BAK mod?

Thanks.

I have the Cobra Speedster Slash Cuts with baffles and really like them. Not quite as loud as the V&H, a great mellow sound. On long days it does not wear you out like some really loud pipes. But loud enough to get the attention of the cager drifting into your lane!!!!

As for the BAK, Barons is selling the BAK as a kit with the jet kit, Power Cone, and Rain coat all for the price of the BAK. I got a nice discount for Star Touring and Riding Association membership as well.

I have only had the BAK on a few days, but what an incredible difference. The bike is much more powerful and responsive, and it may be my imagination, but is running smoother than ever before. If you are going to put pipes on jetting is probably going to be helpful if not necessary and for a little more than a jet kit you get a lot more.

If you purchase the BAK now,,,,,,,it comes with the jet kit, the power cone and the raincoat. I ordered the PMS screw and the ported intake,,,,we'll see wot kind of power it will build in the spring.

Check out HackerPipes...and you probobly NEED to re-jet any time you change the pipes, or you may blister or minimally blue your chrome, not to mention heat issues with your motor as well as overall performance. Good luck holmes.

Musky, the power cone will also make hunreds of crinkle cut fries and mounds and mounds of slaw.

Let us know how the BAK install and performance go. I did the poor man's, but the real one is on the wish list.
