What a MacGyver thing to do! As long as it works, who cares!

Say fireman922; What exactly in your opinion do they do to the seat to make it more comfortable? I've e-mailed them, but they didn't tell me what they do to the seat. I'm interested in this company.

Welllllllll... To tell you the truth, I can't saw with all truthfulness that it is any more comfortable than stock. It just sits "different" from stock. They just carve the foam and put the cover back on. It sits lower than stock and is shaped with more of a bucket "sit in the bike" type of shape. I rode 1125 miles in 19 hrs, then 8 days later rode 1200 in 20 hrs, so I guess it isn't all that bad. But next summer, I'll have an Ultimate seat under my butt for the long rides. I had no idea my ass could hurt that bad....

I finally got off the fence between the Ultimate and Mustang and got the Mustang seat + passenger and backrest about 6 weeks ago. What a difference from the stock seat. Really made a differece for me but especially for my wife.

Wife loves it. The seat sucks after 700 miles in a day. Think they all do. Man was not meant to sit on a motorcycle that long. I've done three 1000+ miles day trips on the mustang seat and it sucks. I imagine though that no seat can keep you comfy for that long. I went to star days this past year and the trip back really hurt. Kept looking at the odometer and that just makes the trip longer. It took seriously about a month to fully recover from that trip. For 300-400 mile trips, the seat is great though and the pillon for the wife is probably the most comfortable that is made for the R*.

Sly, I noticed that your backrest sits pretty well flush to the back of the seat. The backrest on my Corbin seems to stick up so that it hits me at mid-back... I was thinking of cutting the stalk on my backrest so that it rests flush like that, and maybe would supply some lower back support. What do you think?

Re:AFTERMARKET SEATS? 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Okay... I took some measurements on the backrest stalk and marked it with a scratch awl. It looks like I could cut an inch and a quarter off the bottom and it would drop it so that it sits about an eighth of an inch above the seat.

Potentialities:

Pro: If it works, I would gain support and comfort for my lower back, which would result in a drastic improvement.

Con: I would lose the screw boss at the bottom, if I ever wanted to bolt the backrest and make it a permanent part of the seat.

Pro: I could drill and tap the new end and remedy this.

Con: Even cutting off the end may not achieve the result I'm after.

Pro: I could probably gently heat and bend the remaining stock so that it puts the support where I need it.

Con: I may completely muff the whole thing and ruin my backrest.

Hrmmmmm...

Frank, could you MFG a new bracket using the old one as a guide and make your mods to it? That way if it doesn't work the way you want you still have the original.

That's a great idea, but unfortunately, I can't get the cushion off of the bracket. If I could, that would definitely be the way to go. (Matter of fact, I may go out and have another go at getting the cushion off of the bracket.)
