This is probably not the answer you were looking for
I have a radio on my bike, but it is a small pocket radio that rides in the saddlebag. I use it to listen to weather and news on trips.
Actually, the only way I have seen a real stereo on a Road Star is to get an aftermarket fairing kit with a marine stereo and 4 marine high power speakers in it. (I would like a radio on my bike, but I don't want the full fairing on my bike, If I was a fairing kind of guy I buy a Royal Star.)

How about a Sansa MP3 player. It has an FM receiver and you can play mp3's.

Stick it in your vest pocket and hook up the earphones.

Not sure right now but there is a am/fm radio that a friend of mine got from the back of a Ford Windstar , I believe it was a 99 . Very compact and he mounted it in a box with 4" Marine type speakers . I inspect his bike and was surprised as to how good it sounds . Will get all the info and get back to you with details .

Here are 2 thoughts for you Snowman,

There are a few companies that make a chrome/billet clamp for the bars that then holds on iPod or MP3 player.

I have a Chatter Box helmet intercom that allows you to plug in a radio/mp3 player and it plays right into the stereo earpieces in the helmet. I use a full face most of the time and this works great.

Don't forget to mount a big thumpin' powered sub-woofer under your seat to really boom out the hip hop beat!

I agree, I don't want a fairing on my bike either.... That kit on ebay doesn't look bad.... I was just thinking a radio on a long ride would be nice, but the wife doesn't agree with me.... Thats MAYBE why I need the radio...lol

Re:Radio 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I took a cheap 50 watt amp and 2 cheap 50 watt 4 inch speakers that I had laying around in the garage, mounted them both to a 10 inch (approx) board that would fit behind my windshield, wired them with a head set wire (so I could plug in my CD / mp3 player) wrapped the whole thing in about a foot of pleather (plastic leather) that I had laying around... I ran a wire off the battery under the tank a put a 2 pole plug on the wire (so now I have an accessory wire up front) I hold it in place with 2 adjustable straps ... I also ran a headset extension wire under the tank to the saddle bag so I could put my big (hand sized) CD player in there... but most of the time I attach my MP3 player to my handle bar and I have volume control by using the fade option on the amp (wire to the back outputs only) my passenger can't really hear it over the wind noise (or at least so she tells me I will occasionally hear her singing along) - but I hear it just fine (even at 95mph)... for bad weather I bought a "frogg togg" bag (used to store frogg togg rain gear) treated it with water proofing and wrapped it over the speakers and amp - works well enough to prevent over spray from doing damage but I wouldn't leave it there for a long soaking rain. Total investment $25 wires, plugs about 4 hours time ~Guido

Post edited by: davehrn, at: 2007/01/22 07:55
