blackroadie-

They aren't slashcuts, but I have a brand new set of Cobra pipes (not slip ons). They are a discontinued style that I was lucky to find--I wanted the stock look at the time, but the Cobra sound and bought them. THEN I changed my mind before I put them on and went to the HKs.

They look almost like the stock exhaust...with the tapered bullet end. Still have the shrink wrap protective film on the heat shields. Was gonna stick 'em on eBay someday, just never got around to it. Let me know if you're interested.

Roadkill, how do you like the sound of the Hard Krome's? I have Cobra Speedster shorts and just don't like the sound at all. On decel the air flapping sound drives me nuts. I've tried everything to fix it, but unless I completely remove the baffles, it does it. It's too loud without the baffles and the sound is not as deep as I had hoped. Guess it's because the pipes are shorties?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve--

I love the HKs, but they are not quite by any stretch of the imagination. Not too obnoxious when ya lug it, but the first time my wife was driving her car next to me while I was on the bike, I cracked the throttle and she said it scared her how loud the were...and I still have the baffles in. The tone is really great, but they do make my old Cobra slash cut slip-ons I had before sound quite by comparison.

Me like.

Thanks RK. I've heard good things about the big HK's. The reason I bought the Cobra pipes were price, but I also liked the way they sweep down and stay down along the side of the bike like HK's. I think I'm going to have to switch to get the sound I'm looking for. I've had compliments on the Speedsters, but I've had way to many leaks with them for my liking. I finally got them to seal the last time (5th time off and on) by using JB weld to cover the slots where the clamps don't cover them and let hot gas discolor my engine side cover. Now I'm probably have a hell of a time getting them off now when I go to replace them, but at least my chrome isn't getting burnt anymore.

One thing I found after lowering the rear of my bike is that these type of low mounted pipes scrape the ashpalt on sharp righ turns. Have you found that or is your bike stock height?

BlackRoadie--

I finally dug those babies out! Here are some low-res pics (don't wanna eat everyone's bandwidth ), but you can get the idea. Bought 'em and never even use 'em. PM me with your email address and I can send you the high-res pics if you're interested.

I know this is a little off subject, but is anybody running the Vance and Hines short shot staggered? I was wondering if you can remove the baffles? It has a set screw, and I can turn the baffles in the pipe, but they won't slide out. Thanks

If you want tochange the sound of you HK pipes I sent Doc may writ up on making some glasspac baffles or if you want I can send you my copy in PDF format. They tone down the harsh sound and give it a more mellow rummble. love the sound of mine now.
