Re:Avon Venom at JC Whitney. Good price 3 Years ago
Paul I am on 3rd AVON, Front tire no problem, Rear, I don't know, It cracked around the rim way way way before tread got even close to low. I contacted AVON and about a week after I got a new tire they e mail back to contact AVON America. Ha ha. So anyways I only got a new Avon Rear because I don't mix tires and I had to put it on to run out the front. No problem sticking and fairly good wear other than the cracks around the rim on rear both sides. I later posted a link to a recall for a different tire where they say was cracking due to the torque on which the bike produced that the tire was installed on. So I figure that was my problem running it on the RS.

So, next round I am also going Metzler. They even have a newer tire out.

Funny thing, the place I got my AVONs at are not selling them in the future, and they sell a crapload of tires. (Shadetree) so, got to be a reason for the sales?
Avons noted for sticky, good handling and quiet ride, I got all that.

Mike

I've had a good experience with the Avons and the 180 fits the rear very nice.

Mike,
I'm running Dunlop 404's on front and rear. Time for a new rear tire and thinking of going to Metzler ME880 marathon (size?). Mike you mentioned that you don't mix tires. I am not in need of a new front tire yet. So is there a big problem with running Metzler on the rear, while the Front wears on?
I just don't get the wear out of the Dunlops. According to my records, I had the rear tire installed 2 years ago this month, and only has 4K on it..

It's not that you can't mix them. IMO it does not matter as much on a cruiser as on like my sons GSXR 600. If you just cruise then I would not waste the money getting two new ones.

The construction of tires differ, so while mixing them they may react different to the surface and adversely affect the handling. I've only done it once. I didn't like it myself and I changed the front to match the rear pretty soon. It was most noticeable getting on it in the curves. Hardly at all cruising. So if your not banging the curves, you can run those two out.

My feeling has been when changing a rear, to just match the front because next time you'll need both and you can make the change to the tires you want then. I'm there right now and Metzler is my next tires also.

Looks like the ride is a go. We are meeting at the gas station in Dale Jct. 62 and 231 at 1:00 eastern. Riding into Owensboro and hopefully eating around 2;00 PM eastern. Bring any friends you want as all are welcome !
