My wife is 5'4" and has an 05 650 v-star. We also travel state roads and back roads mainly up here in Mid-Michigan. She loves the bike.... and she sat on a bunch of them. The only drawback is that it could use another gear because it seems to be geared a little low. I would also take the MSC, as I did with my wife. The confidence that she came out with was fantastic! If we were to do it again, I would look at the Honda Sabre or V-star 1100. Since I've gotten my 07 R* and added the corbin seat, she likes to ride on the back, just relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
