Nice of you to stop and help. I find myself doing that if I am on my bike or in my truck or car either one. I would hope that what they picked up from your generosity is a sense of community and good will.

Ain't so much about being a biker as it is about being a good person towards others in need. Good on you RH.

The distress signal is helmet on ground by rear tire...
These days with people stopping to check their emails and yack on phones it is a little trickier, so make sure you know it, use it and watch for it....
I recently had experience doingPrimary response Firts aid at a bike accident... 2 bikes, one with helmet near rear tire... Pulled over to find out that 3rd guy was in ditch...
Be prepared and ride safe... cuz ya never know when the F'ck up fairy is gonna visit.

Good for you. I stop for any bike beside the road. I beep my horn and give a thumbs up and if the guy on the roadside gives me one I ride on by, otherwise I stop. Every time. I don't care if they are riding a moped. I would hope others would do the same for me.

Here’s a story of what happened to me a few years ago. It was about 4:30am, cold and raining like crazy. Actually, one of the coldest mornings we’ve had that winter so far. I was driving my pick-up because of the weather was so bad. I pulled into a gas station to fill up and noticed a guy setting on the curb next to the building. He had a raggedy blanket over him and some pretty dingy clothing. Obviously homeless and no place to go. After fueling up the truck, I went in to get a cup of coffee and a donut and decided to get the same for the guy sitting outside on the curb. I put my stuff in the truck and proceeded to take him his. As approached him, I noticed he had his eyes closed. So, I thought he was just taking a snooze and gave him a little nudge on his shoulder asking him if he’d like a cup of coffee and donut. Well, as I nudged him, he slowly fell over to the side and just laid there. Yep, you guessed it, he was dead! I walked back into the convenience store and you should of seen the look on the clerks face when I told him there is a dead guy laying on the curb outside. I waited for the police and let them know what happened. As I was talking with the LEO, I asked him if he wanted the coffee and donut I bought for the guy on the curb. He said, “sure why not, he doesn’t need it now anyway”. Needless to say, I can honestly say I haven’t bought another cup of coffee or donut for a dead person since. But, I have for others I felt just needed a little warming up.

Wow, that was some story. I bet that was kinda weird. One time I pulled in a station to get gas. A guy in a little pickup came over and asked if I could spare a few dollars for gas. He was trying to make it to Denison and had missed his turn in Dallas. He would have had enough gas if it were not for that. He was lost. I talked with him a bit to make sure he wasn't just trying to scam me out of some money. The more I talked with him the more I felt his story was true. I told him a few dollars would not get him anywhere. I walked over to his pickup which was by a gas pump and filled it up for him. He wanted my info to pay me back, and I told him not to worry about, he could pay me back by passing it on to others in need one day. Whether his story was true or not doesn't matter, I did it in good will and that is all that matters to me.

May be that I'm just looking out for myself by being a good Samaritan now and then. I'm not a hard core believer, but it does seem that Karma can have an impact on us. My parents taught me to help those who are truly in need, so for me it's more of an honor to my parents than anything else.
Well, the good Karma is nice now and then.

I try to help whenever I can. You never know when someones gesture of kindness may be needed by you someday. Even after this one particular experience. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment-but I sleep well at night.
Coming out of the bank this one hot summer day, I get approached by a guy, sweating his bag off, telling me how his car broke down on the highway, and had to get it towed to a where he lived (about 80KMS away) and there was no room in the tow truck cuz his kid and wife went with the tow truck driver and the car, and it was his kids graduation tonite and he needed some cash to catch a Greyhound home so he could go to his daughters graduation and he had left his wallet in his car. Now, having the gift of a great judgement of ones character, I thought this guys legit, mid 40's, didnt look like a drunk, in fact looked like my godsons hockey coach. I hand the guy 20 bucks, he says "Thanks and God bless you" and I go back to work.
I get back to work and through conversation tell my business partner what had happened.... He finished my story for me, and perfectly described the guy. Apparantly he was taken for 10 bucks on Saturday night while going for a walk with his wife and kids. I'm thinking WTF???
Fast forward three years, same bank, except in mid winter. I pull into a parking spot around the side of the bank, and here comes some guy all bundled up, asking for a handout cuz his car broke down....this time I finish his sentence, and he turns pale white-"Oh Sh!T-nevermind" he says, turns around and starts to run off. He falls on some ice, i get ontop of him, and just before I lay a fist into him, he reaches into his pocket and gives me a 20. I grab another 20 out of his wad and tell him its the interest. I then picked him up off the ground and told him I'd give him the opportunity to run and off he went-never to be seen again.

I think the younger guys learn when they are in need, and they are hoping that a brother biker would stop to help. Then they know what they should do next time. It will be hard for them to just drive on by. If not, then too bad for them, they will never know the feeling of helping another. The feeling of unselfishness.

I've given my fair share of gas to stranded Motorcyclist , and plugged a couple tires. I ride , and my Wife rides. I would like to think that someone would stop and help me or her (She pretty , I'm not , so...) if we needed help. I will say , doing good routine maintenance on our stuff has prevented us needing help from others on the side of the road.
I was turned away once by a lady that had a flat in her BMW.....guess my size scared her , and I'm sure she had some sort of back up plan (AAA) already in motion , but she didn't even roll the window down.
Good of so many to help stranded motorcyclist......BB
