#21233 smhowse (Moderator) Book em Dan-o! Moderator Posts: 3508 Changing spring & lowering 5 Years, 2 Months ago   Has anyone changed out their rear spring? what brand did you use? I am looking at Barons at 913lbs per inch and Progressive at 1200lbs at it lowers the bike 1/2" I am a big guy 6'1" and my wife is.... well two up we're about 440lbs. I am also looking at lowering my bike the Fat bike way at the same time. Did you have to use a special tool to change the spring? I know Barons sells a spring removal tool. I changed my 650 VStar without any special tools. After lowering does the tire hit the fender when you hit bumps? I'm short 5'-7" and weigh about 195 and after lowering my bike it barely bottomed out. I knew I would be riding my wife so I decided to get the Barons spring. I have not bottomed out since. I took my whole shock assembly to a bike shop down the road and they changed the spring for me. You will not have to worry about the tire hitting the fender as the bike will bottom out first. I put Barons 900lb spring on mine and the Barons lowing kit. You will need a press to remove the spring. It takes about 5 min to change the spring if you have a press. I used the Barons lowering kit to lower the rear because the flip way lowers the bike about 3". Which I thought was to much for two up riding. Now the Mechanic that did it was a pretty good guy and was willing to try any thing once and since, I hear he's done a few more, hope this helps you.
