Air Ride 2 Years, 6 Months ago

This is what I am thinking... I am thinking about getting rid of my Barons air ride setup now that I dont have a trailer to pull behind the bike anymore... The cool factor is definitely there when it is sitting on the ground at a show or meet and greet... but, now I am too much into just hopping on and riding and not having all the toys... just a bike and being able to ride...
With that said... I am looking around at a shock setup that would handle a lot of two up mountain road type riding... something like a progressive shock and spring or a warrior shock with an upgraded spring... just want to see what kind of interest I can get on a trade... or trade plus boot or just plain selling this outright and buying what I want... if anyone is interested and can meet the criteria, gimme a shout... mind you, I am thinking out loud here... I have about $700 in this setup that normally goes for around $1000...

I'm betting you'll get a bite or two with all the talk about air-rides lately...
But, you can hold on to the "Cool Club" patch for a while...

Thanks... LOL!! I think I will keep that patch even after the air ride goes away... hehe... I gots me a lotta goodies on my Roadie that strikes up conversations... like the HD switches and big ass royal star bags and apes.... but when I let the air outta the rear end... the eyes really pop out of peoples heads.... kinda comical actually... lets see what comes of this if I actually get rid of it or not...

Could you please explain.
Why do you like the air ride with the trailer?

With the weight that was being applied to my bike when we were heading out on trips, I needed something that was adjustable, and something that the wife liked... with the air ride, I could adjust just how firm the ride is... depending on how much crap we packed for that trip, depended on how much I aired up the shock... made for some really great trips! As far as the wife goes... I had the stiffest shock and spring setup I could find (prior to the air ride) and when we were not pulling the trailer, and hit a bump, my wife thought the pillion was gonna be pushed up to her throat internally... she didnt like the harsh ride without the trailer... so with the air ride, we got the best of both worlds...

Thanks ..
So if I undersand you correctly ... the weight of the trailer would lower the rear of the bike. You would then add air to raise the rear back up again.
Sounds promising.

So what's the deal ColdStar? Is it really that much of a hassle? Do the cons out way the pros? Cuz it seems that you listed a lot of positives, but not much in the way of negatives...

No, not really any negatives... I just like to play too much and I guess if I could actually afford the remote control for the thing, I wouldnt be looking to get rid of it... The only negative I really see with the Baron's air ride is that you cant adjust the rebound when you are riding at mid height. I have installed a lot of automotive type units that you have the solenoids and an air tank for instant up and down, and wish there was a setup like that for the motorcycle... then you wouldnt have to wait for the compressor to raise the bike up everytime... I am a picky s.o.b.... can ya tell? LOL!! and to have rebound and reflex control is always a major plus...
