Naked Hands 2 Years, 4 Months ago

Just sent this message but for some reason it did not go through... I will try again... In the Noverber issue of MCN Magazine there is an artical called Naked Hands. It covers the wearing of gloves at all times while riding. All motorcycle riders should read and digest this article. I recently scraped the top layof off one of my knuckles while replacing a sink in some rental properties I own.Removing all skin made this extemely sore. Can;t imagine scraping the skinoff my fingertips.... Point being...... this reminded me of the Naked Hands article in the Motorcycle consumer News magazine. If you cannot find it I will email it to you. It is good advice.

If your flying thru the air and you see that your going to hit the ground, you will put your hands down first...

Great point tommy. After years or riding and racing in the desert, those scrub brushes and rocks sure hurt when they hit your hands even when wearing gloves. I bet that asphault would hurt as well.

I always wear gloves and will admit that they are usually fingerless. I know as the AMA says that is almost like not wearing gloves at all. A friend of mine nearly 30 years ago made me stop and think when he saw me riding gloveless, that the first thing that hits is your hands and they heal slowly and painfully. We all will put our hands out defensively to protect ourselves and if they are uncovered they will be skinned, or worse. Even thin gloves can save a lot of skin. That first brush is the worst. Even incidental contact as you find yourself sliding along can be quite damaging and a painful injury. They are a pain, but worth the time.

I may, at times, not wear a jacket or chaps, but I always wear a helmet, jeans, gloves, shades, and boots, at a minimum. Motorcycles can be fixed, and they come and go. You only get one body.

I wear gloves all the time. BTW, my dad says fingerless gloves are for fingerless riders.

Leather work gloves in the summer and leather gauntlets the rest of the time.
I tried the fingerless one year, but after a bee got between the glove and my finger and stung me it's been full gloves all the time.

A few years back a buddy of mine low-sided his bike while riding down I-4 (eight-land highway) down here in Orlando. Luckly there wasn't much traffic at the time and he just slid for a while. He was wearing a full face hemet, lether jacket, jeans and leather gloves. Either way, he said while he was sliding he couldn't tell how fast he was going. He put his hands down to slow himself down, and the road ripped the gloves right off. Next came the skin. But I imagine it would have been worse if he didn't have anything at all. Took a long time to heal.
