Front bearing? 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Now I've never encountered anything like this, so I'm having to use a car comparrison to the sound I feel. When riding 15-45 around a turn, it feels like a grinding sound, as though the bearings were shot. However I've had many older bikes with comparable and much more miles, and never had this occur. When the front bearing went in my truck I knew it right away, and that is the closest thing I can compare it to. Has anyone had this? Is it likely to be something else?

Maybe one of the front brake calipers grinding on the rotor? Depending on yr of bike either the rotor is the floating type or the caliper is the floating type. I haven't heard too many people having much issues with wheel bearings. Guess you'll have to get the front wheel off the ground to check it.

I figured not many had this issue. My first hope was it was the brake dragging, but I checked that and it's clear. The sound/sensation is not there when going strait, at low or high speeds, only when turning where the force is being applied to push the wheel out one way or the other. It's a 2001, I'm not sure which applies, but I thought the caliper was always floating, though I don't know a whole lot about that sort of driveline. I'm more into what's under the tank.

I have the same thing I have ordered new bearings for the front and rear. I noticed it this last run that the windshield looked like it was going to viberate off in the turns. It is a strange sound from the front and it isn't the rotors dragging. I have after market wheels I bought used so I have no idea how many miles are on the bearings. I have put 20,000 on them myself. Better safe than sorry that is one thing ya can't lean over and check while moving.
