AIS removal on 08 R* 3 Years, 3 Months ago
Has anyone completely removed the AIS on an 08 R* with EFI? if so, What kit and instructions did you use?
I am not finding much information on available kits for 08's. Not sure if those made for 07 models will work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

I don't have any info on AIS differences between the 07 and 08 but I doubt that there are any.

Check out pics of the 07 system and compare it to yours.

I think you can use the same kit as the 07 models.

I didn't remove the AIS on my '08. I disabled it. I cut the ais hoses behind the rectifier and bought some rubber plugs at lowes and plugged the hoses. Works like a champ and if you tape the hose ends back together it looks stock to the casual observer (i.e. the dealer)

Re:AIS removal on 08 R* 2 Years, 6 Months ago
Been awhile since I added to any threads, and since I've changed some things on my 08 R*, thought I'd pass along what I've learned. I took my exhaust to Stage 3 a few weeks back after Stage 1 did nothing for me (Getting older, y'know...). Then I added a K&N BAK ($45 on Ebay-HAH!). I got some backfiring, as most of you have, so today I completely removed the AIS. I used the kit from Midnight Sky, identified for up to the 07. Hardest part was getting the inside bolt off the rear cylinder port/plug. My only curiousity now is a two wire male-female that plugs into the side of the reed valve. I just unplugged and used some e-tape to keep the moisture at a minimum, which doesn't sit well with me. So if anyone has any idea of the loop it's in or how it affects any of the other systems, I'd appreciate a reply. I figure about the most it did/does is work in conjunction with the O2 sensors somehow. I don't get any warning lights and the backfiring stopped for obvious chemical reasons (No, I haven't been drinkin'!). Next step "might" be a set of Roadhouse Doolies or Cobra Long shots. Been looking at the DG Roadburners, too. If anyone has info on those, that, too, would be appreciated. (NOW I'm going to have that barley pop!)

I plugged mine for a while until I heard stories about condensation building up in the chrome tubes. I unplugged it and sure enough water came out so I removed it all together.
As for the electrical plug I wrapped it up good in electrical tape and zip tied it to the frame facing down so water would not settle in there. Been thousands of miles since this took place last spring and the bike runs strong as even with no hick ups yet.
Hope this helps
