Need calipers?? 2 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm getting ready to list some
front and rear brake calipers on EBAY...
since most of the stuff I've sold has been
to Roadie Forum guys I thought I would offer it here
and save me some time and coin.

These are like new calipers with pads and clips...etc.
complete assem. I have brake lines as well.

These are from an '06 Roadie 1700.

Make me an offer for each...or the combination.

Hey Luke,

I've an '01 1600. I think my front brakes are truly pitiful.

Someone chime in here... the later '06 1700 calipers are different, are they not?

And don't they work a far cry better than the earlier brakes?

Who knows the answer to my question? I'm willing to be a buyer, if my stoppers can be improved.

Oh, and maybe I should add... I have an '01 V-Star 1100 Custom, and the front brakes on it are fantastic! Why the diff, I wonder? They look to be about identicle.

The 1600 and 1700 are different. I think you also need to swap to the later rotors when doing the swap.

I think that they are different...
You would have to do some research.
I do have one front rotor available as well,
if that helps.

$150.00 if you want both calipers and a rotor.

If you search a yamaha site that offers a parts fiche...
you could compare the part numbers from 01 to 06.
see what swaps and what doesnt.

not neccesarily.

i put the R1 calipers on my `01 about 4 years ago using the original rotors, and had no problems.

you can use opposed piston calipers on non-floating discs (like BMW did on their first bikes using the opposed 2 pot brembos), but it does pay to keep the calipers clean to avoid any problems such as a piston binding.

having said that, itīs part of normal brake maintainence anyway.

I'm not real happy with the front brakes on my '00. Did the R1 calipers improve the braking? Is it a "straight" swap?

yep, R1 or R& monoblocks are a straight swap as the bolt holes are identical. like i posted above, you can use the original discs without any problems.

combined with stainless braided lines (i made replicas of the original lines as i donīt like the look of 2 lines going up to the brake master on the bars)the braking is improved to the point that at town speeds i can stop with just a couple of fingers pressure on the lever.

worth doing

Friends , any change from the 99-03 Roadie front braking system is a Vast improvement. They were truly bad. 150.00 for Warstar's 1700 set up would really put a smile on some one's face. BB
