Shamrock:
That was smart and quick thinking. You got a great deal.
How about a military paint scheme (Olive drab).
Think!.

Re:Cheap Winter Project. 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Today the bike came back to life. I couldn't have asked for it to go any smoother. It fired right up and idled perfectly. The weather was a little crappy so I only ran it up and down the driveway a couple times to get a feel for it, but was very impressed how quickly it fired up and idled after being tore apart like it was. I only had to adjust the clutch just a bit to get the release that I like, but even that was within spec.

I also got the tombstone light installed and it went together very smoothly.

Gotta love it when things go right!

I will take a few pics tomorrow if the weather is better.

Oh also if anyone needs a suzuki needle and seat (for going pumpless) I ended up with 2. It is brand new in the package and I would like to get $30 for it if possible.

I went ahead and took a few pics tonight in the garage...

Here is the new petcock and starter button tucked away...

Here is where I installed the Hi/Lo headlight switch...

The tombstone light...

Handlebars and controls...

...and some misc. shots -

Weather permitting tomorrow it will get a test run to make sure everything is right and will be torn down to hopefully get painted this week. Wish me luck!

Man you work fast. Have you decided what you're going to do for paint?

Shamrock you have it looking good. Glad you bought the bike so I can see the progress. I hate to see a bike in the condition this one was in when you got it. I knew in the right hands it could be brought back to life again. Wish I had your talent.

As of right now my plan is to do the bedliner spray on this set and I am trying to put another set together off of eBay to take my time on and paint myself. I am going to try something I haven't seen with the bedliner spray though. As you see I have a diamond plate thing going on with this bike so I am going to try and make a diamond plate insert on the sides of the gas tank to epoxy on and spray over. So the sides of the tank will have a diamond plate texture. Don't know if it will work, but you don't know till you try right?

What about spraying the bedliner on and then doing a lace job with a different colour or texture of bedliner? May look neat and not be so pronounced?
