Slothy I'm with you on this one.It all depends on the motor. Viking says it was an older softail, so chances are it was an 80ci which isn't really fair against 98ci or 102ci. I have had a Vstar 1100 keep up with my fully loaded R*. I really don't think the R* is fast at all. It has a lot of low end torque but fast! Not even!
When you have riden a motorcycle through the
1/4 mile at 8.52 and 156 mph and then ride a R* you realize just how slow the R* really is!
But I can still understand the fun of rolling it on with someone and pulling away from them, that will put a smile on anyones face

You are right on, the Roadie is porky (weighs too much) but has lots of torque. I've been thru the quarter mile in the ten second range on a scooter and compared to the Roadie there is none. But that isnt the point. We all forget sometimes our bike is a "cruiser" as in cruising, as in just riding along. Then again thats why I have cut off as much stuff as I can to make mine just a bit quicker than those of you hauling bags and pushing fairings.....

i agree. a buddy of mine has an old 83 suzuki 750. his carbs are out of sync. i can smoke him on take off, but he hits third i give up ]slothy wrote:[/b]
