Lost My Best Friend 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I don't know why I'm putting this on here but today I had to put down my best friend of almost 20 years, one of my yellow lab's he was my hunting dog, best friend and I loved him like he was my kid.
Guys it was the hardest thing I had ever done in my long life and I will admit I cried like a little girl and I'm going to miss the hell out of him.
Thanks for lessening

Ultra,

I have been in your shoes. It takes a brave and compassionate person to make the decision you did. You must know it was the right decision and that your kindness will not be forgotten.

The best advice I can give is to concentrate on all the good memories you must have with your best friend. I hope those memories can help you get through the bad days. I know mine have served me well when needed.

Truly feel your pain...This little prayer helped me....

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Rest easy my friend.....

Ultrastar, My thoughts are with you. I too, had to do what you just went through three years ago. I miss him every day. And think of him quite often. Hold on to all of the memories you have (good times as well as the not so great) You will be cherishing them all from this day forward.

Jay I'm so sorry for your loss. Remember that he knew that you loved and cherished him. You were his best friend too I'm sure. Keep focused on the good memories with him... nothing can take away memories. My thought and prayers are with you man.

I'm very sorry to hear this ultrastar. This brings back some sad memories. We never get over things like this. Each time our beloved pets take a part of us with them.

Dude... I too, among many others here, know and feel the pain and loss of your great companion and unselfish friend. He has stood by you in prosperity and in poverty. Where all other friends desert... he remained. Its been 16 months since I had to put my best friend down and I still see his furry face and hear him pace our place.

Not much to say that already has and will be said Jay. Peace to you brother.
