it was march 2008 a bunch of us was sitting in the break room at work. some of them was talking about riding their bikes. i told them i wanted to learn to ride. they all told me because of a club foot i had when i was born even though it was fixed it still causes pain in my foot, that i would not be able to ride. the next day i financed a yamaha 650 vstar to prove them all wrong.

A long time ago...in a Galaxy far far away...When I was in the 5th grade our paperboy pulled up on a white Chushman Golden Eagel. It was the baddest, coolest thing I ever saw! It's all downhill from there!

Re:When Did You Know???? 3 Years ago
I first started paying attention to them around 1985 when they had the V65 Magna commercials on TV, but at that age I was more concerned with things that come in pairs versus things that had a pair of wheels. I guess the love affair began in the Navy while in San Diego, a guy that I looked up to and who later became a great friend had a Fazer 700, and after knock-off time he'd grab his Shoei helmet and head down the peer to where the bikes were parked. Sometimes I'd head that way just to see and hear that bike. I was hooked from that point on. I bought my first bike not long after, a 550 Maxim, and then found Julian, CA. About every Saturday I'd ride up there, it was great. I learned what an extra 150 cc's worth of 5 valve genesis motor could do to a 550 Maxim on a regular basis though.

I was probably the ripe old age of two or three.(1955 or 1956) One passed us while we were going somewhere. I was bouncing all over the place trying to get the best look I could. I think it was the Montgomery Ward model they sold, 250cc I can't remember what they called it. Bare Bones motorcycle two wheels, engine, and rider. I actually got to ride one of those back in 1966 and loved it. The year after that I got my first motorcycle, 1967 Honda 305 Super Hawk. Spent almost all of my teen age years on that bike. I was huge for my age, 14 years old and 6' 4" and 185 lbs(Not fat)

Mine was a little different, my Dad absolutely hated motorcycles, my Mom on the other hand always talked about an old indian with a sidecar that her and her brother had when they were kids so that kinda started it, I rode a couple friends bikes but I didn't own my own until 07 when I bought a V-star 650 which was a terrific little bike and I rode the mess out of that bike, then I went in the dealership for something and saw my Roadstar and it was all over but the signing.

Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY. John F. Kennedy Aug. 1963

Re:When Did You Know???? 3 Years ago
I guess mine was when I was probably 7-8 y/o. My uncle had a sportster 880 (i think). I used to think it was the hugest bike I had ever seen. I was about as tall as the drivers seat. I used to think it was the coolest sound when he would go down the road.

One day he put myself and his son on the bike with him. He only knew one speed, wide open! It would scare be crap out of me but I loved it. Then when I was about 10 my cousin had a honda rebel and I knew I wanted one when I was old enough to get my motorycle license (14). So my day bought me one for my 14 bday for abou 1200. I would ride it back and forth to football practice, church, and school.

One time I was riding down the road to church and drive under a pine tree and a swarm of Hornet went down my shirt and within about a 1/4 mile I was stung 16-18 times.Man was I hurting.

Then I got a job 6 years ago as a firefighter and bought a Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 from the same uncle mentioned earlier. Drove it for about 2 months and new I wanted to upgrade. Test drove my Captains Midnight Roadstar and 3 days later and haved loved it ever since.

Re:When Did You Know???? 3 Years ago
It was probably when I was about 13 years old in the early 60's and my friend accross the street got a Cushman Eagle motor scooter that his father totally re-built for him. I thought that was so cool. Later in the 60's when I had a driver's license, I bought an old Triumph 650, the engine was actually in pieces in a basket! I had a mechanic who knew what he was doing reassemble the engine and had some fun on the bike for a short time. Next, I bought a new Yamaha 350 in the mid-70's. It was pretty fast for what it was but I sold it soon due to family obligations. So, after all this and I am 60 years old at the time, I bought my '08 Roadstar Silverado S new in June of '08. It was worth the wait!

Re:When Did You Know???? 3 Years ago
well, i'm not exactly sure when. but, i traded a Fender guitar for a honda CB350 when i was working as an itinerant flight instructor after a coupla tours in RVN (very long ago and far far away). the thing burned more oil than gas, and the chain whiplashed me into total submission; but at the end of the day, i just had to have another bike. over the years, that turned into a series of Beemers, Guzzis, Kawasakis, Gold Wings, one beat-up old 900 Sportster, and about 750,000 miles plus, more or less. (and a whole bunch of tires!!) as of today, my lovely bride has finally gotten me down to one bike - an '08 Silverado S. Over the years, she and i road many miles, and we made it into almost every state and most of the provinces. i am a fortunate man, and as i near that seventy mark, i guess bikes are just a part of my everyday life. i try to ride every day, and out here in Nuevo Mexico that is often possible. AIN'T LIFE GREAT? AREN'T WE ALL LUCKY A**HOLES??
