2004 Roadstar Ignitor Unit 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Think the ignitor unit on my 2004 Roadstar is on the fritz. The fuel pump will not run. I have power to the red wire on the relay and if I jumper it to 12v it runs fine. I pulled the plug off the ignitor and grounded the fuel pump relay wire and the fuel pump ran fine again. In the heat of battle I also replaced the relay, that didn't fix it. I'm pretty sure it's the ignitor unit but I thought I'd get some other opinions. Seems like with all the treads on this subject this is a problem that happens from time to time, I need some feedback before I go spend $400 at the stealership. Also, does anyone know of a performance replacement part.

Oh yea, another question.. would there be any harm in by-passing the ignitor unit and running the fuel pump direct? Thx!

Looks like the right one. Right now I am considering getting a Speedstar CDI, which is on sale for about 250.00 on PowerPartsPlus.com right now. Going to wait to hear a few more comments before deciding. Stay tuned!

Hmmmm, So your saying that the fuel pump is tied into the CDI? I just thought the ignition switch powered it. learn something new everyday..
BTW, I have a speedstar ignitor, it has worked well for me. It's not adjustable like the dyna which some feel is a disadvantage, so you need to be aware that you can reach 5500 rpm before the limit kicks in...
