Or maybe its the fishtail ends you have on them. When I went from the slash cut ends to the taper ends, the sound decreased a little. I imagine the fishtail/shark-tail would have an even more subduing effect on the sound. Try someones slash cut for more bark or maybe you can take off the ends and fire her up and take a listen.

Either way I really like my Dooleys.
