bike crazy the saga begins 1 Year, 8 Months ago
THE SAGA BEGINS:
Bike delivered by trailer to my house. I neglected to mention the bike purchase to my wife and cleaned a small spot in the garage to park it. To appreciate the irony in this statement, you should of 'seen the garage'. It was piled high with everything but a vehicle. (boxes, odds and ends, old bathroom cabinets, projects in process, projects abandoned. A little path here, a little path there, imagine an overstuffed storage locker)
With the bike safely stowed amongst the clutter and effectively overwhelmed by the collection of crap (Not intentionally hidden but not 'in your face' either!) , I welcomed my wife home from work. Oh my, the anticipation of my excitement was overwhelming. I proceeded to tease her unmercifully and eventually turned the conversation to bikes, the 'Wild Hogs' DVD, and similar associations. Well, dinner, small talk, and further cracks about midlife crisis continued. After several hours, I couldn't hold back any longer. Nonchalantly I mentioned that we had so much junk in the garage to eliminate and directed her to examine the symptoms of 'Hoarding crap'. Unbelievably, she did not notice the bike. (Told you it was a 'busy' mess).
I am beside myself in excitement. Not exactly the reaction I was anticipating. Oh what a tangled web we weave. A minute passed as she's making her way through the hodgepodge of junk when she spots 'THE BIKE' The look of shock, the look of bewilderment, my incessant teasing. Wait a sec, what did I just see. The look of excitement! Yes, Yes, I did it. I caught her off guard!

Can we keep it? Can we keep it? Honey! Can we keep it? (YES, WE CAN!)

(oh that will come back and haunt me. You know it, I know it, and she knows it!)

(The Next Day)
I took the bike for a short ride. Yes a very short ride indeed.
The bike abruptly died 1 block from house. The entire electrical system went dead. Turned key off, Turned key on, gauges jumped and settled. With a puzzled look I hit the starter and vroooooom goes the motor. (I got exactly three feet forward and abruptly duplicated the above procedure.)
Completely embarrassed, I dropped the kickstand, removed my helmet and began to think ‘How in the 'ell am I going to get this thing back to the house. Inspiration hits. I closed my eyes, clicked my heels and whispered "it's good to be home, It's good to be home." I opened my eyes and much to my amazement, nothing happened! Oh well, one fantasy at a time, one fantasy at a time.
Reality sets in: I began the logical approach, Electrical------battery. I therefore opened the seat and staring at me was a loose ground wire on the battery. The situation was corrected quickly and I continued on my way. After riding the ill tempered beast a bit, I returned home and really gave her a good look. yep, I washed and waxed her, scrubbed those whitewalls, and gave her a rubdown that would have broken my wife's heart.
More to come:

That is a great story. So much that almost all of us can relate to, in one way or another. I love it! Can't wait for the saga to continue.

I had the same incident with my wife except I told her, "I have rubbed you this way many times, but for some reason you don't shine."
I now reside in the garage next to my R*. At least it doesn't SNORE!

You mean I'm not the only one that shows up with a bike just out of the blue without telling anyone? The wife and my mother (in her 80's) both had a COW! But that changed! Funny how us guys kinda sneak things in isn't it.

I kind of did the same thing with my 07 R*, January of 09 I went to visit my local Yamaha dealer and low and behold a new 07 show's up at my house. wow I don't know how that happened, I guess I was in a trance. like the old saying goes. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permision.

Re:bike crazy the saga begins 1 Year, 8 Months ago
My last ride I bought before the Roadie was in the same vein. Ex and I had been out looking at bikes but nothing serious, we didn't have the cash but I really wanted a new bike so lots of tire kicking but no buying. Wandered in to local Kawasaki dealership and noticed they had a zero down, zero payments for a year deal! Hell, I could ride it for a year for free and then move the financing to my credit union. Brilliant. Filled out paperwork and then they informed me I was denied for the zero-zero deal. I said What? I blew my lid as my credit rating was up in the 800's, with nearly no debt other than my house and 2 decent incomes, in other words pure gold. I asked the guy who did Kawasaki's financing and he said HFC. I said no wonder. They took one look and knew I was going to game them then move the loan in a year and they would make nothing. They want you to get hooked and then they bang you to your knees with a loan shark high interest rate. I was so pissed I told the guy "prep the bike" I'll be back in an hour.

Drove to credit union, got loan for the bike and a check to pay for it in full. Drove back to dealership and picked up bike and 2 new helmets. Drove to station and filled up and headed home. Then realization set in and I figured I better finesse this one. Turned and rode to wife's work. Parked and went in and chatted with her a bit and said "come on walk me out". We walked out and talked a bit more standing right beside the bike her not catching on my Rodeo was no where to be seen. I turned and put my leg over the bike and she said "what the heck are you doing". With as straight a face as I could I said "oh, I bought this one we were looking at the other day.......and it's even the color YOU liked". I put on my helmet and drove off with her standing there with her jaw on the ground.

Kept bike 2 years, she only rode it once and hated it every day. I finally sold it to shut her up about the payment. yeah, so that worked out real well!
