That bike looks like an XS400, the 650's smaller bro. I just sold my XS last spring (and wish I hadn't!) I bought it cheap, and when I was done with it I had put in a big bore kit, ported it, stainless headers and tapered-tip muffs, and juiced up the carbs. (and a ton more stuff) It ran and sounded great, and I put 11K flawless miles on it after that work. I would have hopped on it and ridden it to Alaska and back. There are new parts for almost everything on it available, it is easy to work on; old parts are abundant. For a few grand you can have a sweet little chopper (I like G&L Choppers out of Colorado and their work on the XS650) The bike is bullet-proof, probably why there are still thousands of them out there.

I would say a 1200 bandit or a B-king if you can find one (it will blow your hair back).Or an Yamaha FZ1, Kaw- 1000. I have had all of the but the Bandit in the last two years. The FZ1 and Kaw-1000 are wheelie monsters.

I had an 03 FZ-1 that was nutted out. Pipe, ported, carbs done. It was the craziest thing I have ever owned. It would do 73 MPH in first gear. My Ex-Wife had a 06 FZ-1 that was stock and it was a great bike, but a bit tight for me. I am 6'2" and my legs were cramped. I would have a 1st gen FZ-1 again in a flash. The problem was, I was so damn irresponsible on it. As long as I was going more than 20 mph, the thing would wheelie anytime I wanted to.

For a while I had a Triumph Sprint ST. I took it in for service and they had a Thruxton that I took for a demo. THAT was a BLAST! If I was to have a second bike, I would seriously look at one of those. It was pretty quick, handled well, had good brakes and made a beautiful sound. (It had pipes on it). And of course, it is gorgeous in the way you might see Steve McQueen riding the hell out of it back in the day.

Last I looked, Triumph had the second lowest warranty repair rate behind Honda so that isn't a factor.

I would strongly vote for the Thruxton.

in high school i had the yamaha rd250 and the rd350 but never got to own the rd400 so that would be my choise. I also owned the xt500 enduro in the 12th grade then went to a honda 550four then a 750four. ya know thinking back a friend had the 400four super sport and it was a weelie jerking machine so that might be a choise also

An unmodified XS650 standard would be my choice. The Kawasaki W650 is another good choice if you can find one.
