I see no need in using Premium oil and a cheap filter. As far as extended drain intervals... I think all oil gets dirty. I only put around 3K miles per year, I will not go more than one year on an oil change. I would rather use a good MC dino oil and a super tek filter and change in 3 or 4 k miles. Same thread, this person takes them apart and you can see what the filter actually does. . .the WalMart filter, to me, looked great. . .and I heard somewhere that they are made by WIX. BUT if you're only putting 3K on it a year then I agree with you. Just go out and have fun. In the end I believe that petroleum based oil is more that capable of doing the job.
