Keeping it clean is only civilized. However, that line is always being moved. Someone mentioned the language on TV and how some words here that people use the symbols for are not even bleeped from prime time TV, cartoons and more.

I think someone who is reading threads about bikes and written by Bikers shouldn't be offended if an occasional word slips out now and again, no matter what their age. I agree that there is no room for the really bad, but if you hear it on TV or the news, then it's really not an issue.. to me. Profanity for the sake of making a point really isn't necessary, make the point another way.

The bylaws request it and as a mod I need to set an example.
Where are these bylaws at? I clicked on the tab above "RULES" and nothing is said in regard to swearing.
I'm just curious.

I personally think it falls under the "be respectful" clause.

We have resisted creating a long list of forum conduct rules since our inception. We have always felt that was counter productive and quite frankly can feel oppressive.

For that reason we have not put that into our rules. We have always felt that when posting content in a public area that it is prudent to be respectful of how your words would be taken by others. A lot of the members have children, and some really don't like to be subjected to profanity. Its their lifestyle and their choice to live that way. I think we should respect that.

Things will occasionally slip, we all know that. If we make a rule about it then we have to deal with the issue. If we don't and we leave it to your discretion, we only have to deal with it when it becomes offensive.

I didn't take BB's post as an admonition or reprimand. I took it as a plea from someone who does not like to read profanity to all the members of the clinic.

Thanks to Steven for reposting it. I needed the reminder as I tend to use replacement characters to express myself from time to time and don't need to do so to make a point.

FWIW, the Clinic does not need to be like church on Sunday. And I don't really think BB meant his post that way.

Just another $.02

I do refrain from swearing/cussing/cursing in the physical presence of children & christain folk. However I am guilty of uisng "innapropiate" language in the company of adults. I do understand members don't want their children and or grandchildren reading or hearing "innapropiate" words. But,there is a warning to everyone that joins RSC that such content maybe visible.

I copied this directly from the members conduct from the RSC terms of service.

"You understand that by using the Service, you could be exposed to Content that is offensive, indecent or objectionable. Under no circumstances will Road Star Clinic (roadstarclinic.com) be liable in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, for any errors or omissions in any Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed, transmitted or otherwise made available via the Service."

In order to prevent such content that could be deemed innapropiate the members conduct section really needs to be updated or the admins/mods would have to start banning ip adresses. banning ip's would lead to upset people just as the "innapropiate" content makes people upset that doesn't want to read or have to explain it to others.

Easy solution would be update the members conduct to prevent such material.

I believe I have come up with the perfect solution for foul language on the clinic. I propose 3 days of sensitivity training w/ Jona

I don't have a problem with this either (in the future) . But I am a little confused as to why this situation was blown way out of proportion so quickly by locking the thread. Again, if you do a "forum search" on this word that was used you will find 22 or so pages of post that has this word in it. So if there is a problem with the word I'm not the first and probably not the last to use it here. But I will refrain from using it. If the real problem was that someone didn't like the (my) politcal veiwpoint I was making when using this word then just say so. This word was not directed at, or intended to disrespect anyone here at the clinic. The post and its content was speciffically speaking of politicians from both Dems and Rep parties. Maybe I should have wrote IMHO.
