Yea, like Jona said...
I had to carry a weapon while I was in the military. I can tell you a couple of things from my little bit of experience I have had.
1. Do not carry a weapon unless you are actually willing to use it to kill someone.
2. There are tough guys who will call you out just because you have a weapon.
Like I tell my wife when i ride off camping or to go on a run. If someone wants to kill me and send me to be with my Lord Jesus Christ that is fine but I will not take the chance of killing someone and being the one to send him to hell for eternity.

I would like to say one more thing, .....to all you folks that carry, (thinking that it makes you safe/or bad) you have no idea how easy and quick you can be dis-armed and have your own firearm used to take you out.....please, please, please, be careful with how you handle a situation, what you think may save your life, may very well take it...thats all i'm gonna say about the subjet

A couple of serious thoughts re: handgun for protection while riding:
1. If you are not of the mindset that once the gun clears whereever you have it stashed, your next step in the sequence is to aim, then pull the trigger----do yourself a favor and talk along some MACE instead. Pulling a gun without commitment to firing it is just plain stupid. It isn't for bravado. If you pull it out, make damn sure you kill whoever it is pointed at.
2. Consider alternatives: MACE, Tasers, etc. They still require commitment to using them but without the devastating results; or legal consequences that may befall you even though you were totally acting in self-defense. Everything in the courtroom these days is nothing more than how the event gets spun to the jury; truth and justice have nothing to do with the legal game anymore. Especially where big money is concerned.
Think about it.

Sundad, all good advice, however, most folks can't even muster up the "To Do" to use "Pepper" (Let alone a gun)
It's a moot subject, ya actually have to go through it, to find out who you are, and what your capable of doing, and trust me kids, your ALL capable of doing it

One thing I have found is that no matter what gun you have, any gun on you, is better then the gun that's sitting at home in the gun safe. With that said, I carry a S&W Bodygaurd .380 everywhere. My wife, a Taurus TCP .380. There is literally no clothing that I wear that I can't conceal the Bodygaurd. It's small, lightweight, and with some Hornady Critical Defense ammo, it will do the job for spring and summer carry. In the winter, I would go up in caliber to account for clothing. I would try and steer away from putting it in your saddlebags. By the time you could get to it, it would be too late. Check out the Kholster and Crossbreed holsters. You should be able to find something to allow you to carry on your person comfortably instead of in your bags. Whatever you end up with, make sure you practice with it. So many people think that just because they own a gun they are safe. WRONG!!! Check out Personal Defense tv on the Sportsman channel. Really good show that will teach you how to handle different situations and techniques (the right way). One more thing, since you're new to pistols, I would go with a revolver. Simplicity will help in a bad situation.
My .02 worth.

Again, All good advice Throwback, however, I am of the school of thought, like you said, leave it in the safe, just because you ride a bike don't mean you have to carry, ya might just as well pack a weapon while putting your garbage out, or mailing a letter, or taking your kids to school....leave it alone, just because ya scoot, don't mean ya have ta carry
Shit, I thought I was going to leave the subject alone
Hell, y'all gonna wind up killen somebody and spenden the rest of your life in the joint, and trust me, from experience, ya don't wat ta do dat
Just ride and have a good time
Up to a point,.... someone messes with ya and put's your life in danger....TAKE 'EM OUT!! I don't care how ya do it

Jona,
I agree that some people just shouldn't carry if they don't have the right training and frame of mind. It's not just carrying a gun, it's a way of life. I myself do just about everything with my gun on me, or at least be within reaching distance. It's that time when you think, "ah, I won't need it...I'll only be a second" that the stuff will hit the fan. Some would say I'm paranoid...I say I'm prepared. Then again, I'm ex-military and continue to train IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) on a regular basis and have it in my head that "nobody" is going to harm me, my family, or the general public...if I can help it. As you know from my recent introduction, I'm new to the cruiser/biker world so, I didn't realize that there was a persona of riding a motorcycle and carrying a gun. I just carry because I feel the need.
"Stop...Drop the weapon" and "I felt my life was in danger"- Words to live by if you don't want to end up in the slammer.
