sprung a leak 1 Year, 4 Months ago
My R-star just turned 12k. I'd noticed a little oil on my pipe coming out of the rear jug down around the transfer case. After I changed the oil the other day I noticed it was leaking more than before. I looked close and the oil seems to be coming from between the push rod tube and the top of the rear head. Is there a quick fix for this? It doesn't leak a lot but it seems to gradually be getting worse when it does. Once in a while it won't leak at all. Then it does again. Any advice is welcome and appreciated. Also is there a good way to buy a service manual for a little less than from Yamaha. I am good at car engines but don't like to go in blind and get a bunch of surprises. Thanks for everything.

Can't help with the leak but you can print out the manuals here for free. Sorry. that's the cheapest I can find.

Check to see if the oil line going back to the top of the rear cylinder has a pin hole or the clamp has worked loose. I knocked my lose putitng the tank back on. The factory clamp isn't much. Hope its something that simple. Good luck..

The leak seems to be on the front of the back jug up high. If the oil line runs under the tank on the carb side that could be it. There is so little room it's hard to tell with the carb and air filter. The oil to me may be coming from above the aluminum part of the push rod tube if there's a seal there. I get oil on the push rod tube and the exhaust pipe. What gets me is the new oil is thicker so it should leak less, shouldn't it?
