You need to be careful on those. You have to buy the bids (pennies) and most seem to run about a dollar each so $10.00 might get you 12-15 pennies. Then when you bid your penny is gone whether you win or not. SO the $30.00 item actually cost 3000 penny bids at a dollar a piece and they keep ALL the money. This is a real generalization about the few I have looked into but as they say, if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

Exactly. The winning bidder might get a deal on something. Everyone else who bid paid for each bid and won nothing.
If something has a bid of $5.26 that means 526 bids were placed on the item. Only the final bid actually wins anything. The other 525 bids cost each bidder whatever the cost per bid is and they got nothing in return. A penny bid does not cost a penny.
If each penny bid cost a dollar, the winner won the item for $5.26 cents plus a dollar for each time he bid. If he bid 25 times he won the item for really $5.26 plus $25 or a total of $30.26. Not bad for the winner. But being that there were 526 bids the auction site collected $526 plus the $5.26 extra from the winner. Item might be a $150 item. Winner wins, auction wins everyone else gets screwed.

The security/virus program on my computer won't let me go to that site without bypassing a warning screen.
