Heat shield rattle ARHH......... 4 Years, 8 Months ago
How have you guys made heatshields shut up. Yes my clamps are tight. Roadhouse never even peeped, V&H is driving me nuts. I'm considering putting a light coat of high temp RVT on them to squelch the verbs, any thoughts? BB

Never had that problem with the ProPipe.

Are the clamps too loose or is the heat shield vibrating against something?

Seems to be vibrating against it'self, not a rattle, a metallic buzz. Driving me nuts. BB

Does it do it at idle so maybe you can isolate where it's contacting? Suppose that would be asking too much huh

Yes, only at idle, and slightly thereafter. I've disassembled the pipe completely, nothing broken or out of the way with it. I was thinking that a thin film of the high temp RVT might help the buzz by keeping the metal from "catching" the vibration, but I don't want any adverse affects like bluing from it. Sound crazy? BB

Maybe a thin layer of muffler packing in key places? At least things wouldn't be stuck together and you could move it if it isn't the right spot. Pipe wrap under the clamps? Hope you get it fixed. Those buzzes can drive you up a wall.

I thought I would let the RVT dry then re-install, that way it would not stick together. we'll see. BB
