In reference to a previous thread about Star being a stand alone company distributed by Yamaha. Last night On Speed channel I saw a Star commercial. The commercial talked about Star motorcycles and used the "Make it your own" catch phrase. The only time Yamaha was mentioned was at the end when it said to see your Yamaha dealer to see the Star line of motorcycles. Thought it was kinda strange how everything was worded compaired to the other Yami commercials.:blink Has anyone else seen this?

Are they trying distance the Stars from the fact the the bike is Japanese in origin? A brand name snob just might buy one if it wasn't a YAMAHA. I haven't seen the commercial, but now I'm going to find it and watch it. Found it. http://youtu.be/5uEKttgBpu0

It doesn't matter to me...I was sold on Stars a long time ago. I just thought it was different and It makes me wonder about Yami's marketing stratigy. I just found it courious. Inquiring minds want to know!

It is a marketing strategy to build a motorcycle brand that is differentiated from Yamaha. The Yamaha brand is known for electronics, marine engines, musical instruments, personal water craft and quad vehicles to name only a few. Star is related to cruisers and touring bikes, but not the sport bikes. It is a targeted strategy and over time will create a unique identity separate from Mama Yama.

Polaris (Victory) just bought Indian. Maybe Yamaha/Star is trying to counter what they feel might be some serious competition?
