National Infantry Museum Trip 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Well today a coworker and I decided to headed over to the National Infantry Museum in Fort Benning. We had planned on meeting up at 0830. I was awake at 0545 and decided I would head out around 730 and do some riding before the trip.

Before leaving home I decided to check for my insurance card. I soon discovered it was not there. I checked my file cabinet but apparently I forgot to file the papers the last time they sent the stuff to me. I call Progressive to get a card emailed to me. No problem. They said that it could take 10 minutes to receive the email. As I am waiting my phone rings. It is my buddy. He is sitting on the side of I-85 with a nail in the tire. He asked if I would get him some plugs and bring them to him. I head out, get, and deliver the plugs.

As I pass by in the North bound lanes he has a little chair out chillin on the side of the road. I go to the next exit to get crossed over to the other side of the interstate. As I pull up the bike is laid over. It is a 99 Honda Valkyrie Interstate. I help pick it up and it is super heavy. He puts in the plugs and pulls out an air compressor that hooks to his battery. I did see a motorcycle that had a trailer behind it that looked like a Flag Draped Coffin. Pretty Awesome.

As we head out down the interstate I hear a pop. The plugs came out and shot up in the air across the interstate. This continues 3 more times. On the 4th time he has a flat as well as mechanical problems. We are now about 15 miles from our starting point on the side of Hwy 280.

My buddy figured out the problem was some sort of a "fuse" that had broken in two. A guy stops and makes a similar "fuse" with a recipricating saw blade. I was very impressed. We ended up calling my buddies daddy in law to bring a trailer. We sat on the side of the road basically from 0800 until 1200hrs in the sucky 92 degree Alabama heat AND we never made it to the museum. We did however meet some nice and interesting people who stopped to help.

One of the times we were stopped a guy on a HD Fatboy Low 2010 just moved down here from Chicago, retired Cop, passed by. About 15 minutes later he comes back by but we were already on the road. He drives along side me and gives me a thumbs up and yell's "NICE BIKE!!!". Made me feel like a million bucks.

Maybe I'll get back down there sometime soon.

You say the plugs come out, was there more than 1 hole? Also how big was the hole(s)? Had to be pretty big for a plug to come out.

Nope just one hole. The hole wasn't that big at all. The first time we thought it may have been cause he didn't trim it off even with the tire. Everyother time we trimmed it off which didn't hold either. To be honest it wasn't the best in tire. We were just trying to make it to a dealership in 50' border='0' style='max-width:450px; ' />[/quote
