We are a choice state and it's extremely rare that I don't wear a helmet. Most of the time I wear 1/2 helmet brain buckets. I also don't wear novelty helmets, if I'm going to wear a helmet, I want it certified. I also wear seat belts 99.9% of the time.

WITH THAT SAID......I am completely against seatbelt laws and helmet laws. If you are an adult and don't want to wear a seatbelt or a helmet, then I don't think you should have to.

Make sure it is DOT. This is no time to be wearing a novelty helmet.

I thought this post was dead. My error, many sites have censorship. Just working on the computer and my email says Road Star Clinic; who? I looked at the comments; those who believe in freedom of choice are those who I prefer to work with. Those who think riding without a helmet is stupid or compare them with seatbelts...well good for you, your helmet looks great. We raise horses on our property and attend a lot of horse events. I just can't even begin to tell you how many horse people have told me how stupid I must be for riding the murdercycle or do you have an organ donor card. When in realty, horses are far more dangerous than motorcycles and professional horse people know that. So we all see stupid people. Wearing one or not wearing one has really nothing to do with helmet laws. All motorcyclist rights are about your Constitutional Rights being infringed upon simply because you choose to ride a motorcycle. So you can stand up and be an American or simply comply tell everyone else they are stupid.

How are helmet laws unConstitutional? In many cases judges have stated the helmet law is "Void for Vagueness". Can anyone tell me what the helmet law is? And there is no such thing as a Department of Transportation Approved Helmet. They don't approve a darn thing. Google "Void for Vagueness" Next cut an inexpensive helmet in half and explain how you think that 2 inches of Styrofoam will absorb enough energy to keep your brain from slamming against the inside of your skull. Don't you even wonder why with all of the technology today that the best energy absorbing material used is Styrofoam?

The reason they use Styrofoam is because they don't have to use anything else. It's the law that you have to buy and wear that crap.

Many intelligent 100% pro helmet people have come to our side. They believe that if the helmet laws were removed, helmet companies would actually start to make better helmets. One of the best articles can still be found on the web. The 30 year veteran as an editor of a motorcycle magazine (who wrote the article) was forced out of his job by the helmet companies...they would pull their advertising: Motorcycle Helmet Performance: Blowing the Lid Off Searching for the truth behind motorcycle helmet design, helmet standards and actual head protection From the June, 2005 issue of Motorcyclist
My professional back ground is insurance, over 30 plus years. While in the corporate world I was an executive officer for about 15 of those years. I have seen a lot of helmet lawsuits. Lawsuits that proved the helmet greatly added to the death or injury. Do helmets add protection? Absolutely. Have they been legally proven to cause death and injury? Absolutely. That is why I try to educate people so they can make an adult decision. That is why I want the helmet laws removed..beside being unConstitutional. It was the added weight of the helmet that killed Dale Earnhardt...physics

Wear one or not, you have unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you are not sure what "unalienable" means: You can not give it away and it cannot be taken away. As an American demand YOU make the choice not the government.

We currently have a class action lawsuit against Clark County Nevada. It is not about removing the helmet law; it is about the cops violating riders constitutional rights. You can Google: Repeal It Or Feel It.

We are also involved in the illegal motorcycle only roadblocks (check points) these are be funded by NHTSA. We are also fighting the noise laws and the use of hand held decibel meters; which is against Federal Guidelines.

I get a bit long winded in our battle for our Constitutional Rights. I will post again about insurance. Motorcycle insurance is NOT like your car insurance.

Glad to see there are still some out there who believe they should live their lives they way they want to. That is what America was supposed to be all about.

I live in Wisconsin, and if you are over 18 years of age, you have a choice on weather or not you wear a helmet. Most of the time I choose not to wear a helmet. When I do wear a helmet, it's a FMVSS 218 DOT approved one. Thanks for your work with A.B.A.T.E. I've been a member for many many years(3C of Wisconsin). Keep up the good work.

Coyote Man;

You are in one of the best if not the best ABATE in the entire USA. They didn't chicken sh*t their name, they kept it as it was originally attended. A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. Plus it was founded by one of the greatest civil rights activists fighting for our rights...Tony (Pan) Sanfillip. Tony is also the founder of the organization that founded the group that I am in; Bikers Of Lesser Tolerance...affectionately known as B.O.L.T. I proudly wear an ABATE of Wisconsin patch on my vest.

Have you ever seen the You Tube flick that was made in 1993 about the Wisconsin bikers showing up at the Capitol, by the tens of thousands and NO ONE was wearing a helmet! It is a great flick, it is full of icons. The main speaker is Richard (Quig) Quigley who founded BOLT of CA. Quig walked away from a high 6 figure income and spent everyday of the rest of his life fighting for our rights. Steve Bianco in the back ground (Bianco v Hannigan) Don Blanscet (without Don, Quig could not have done what he did. There truly is no greater motorcyclist rights in your face with civil disobedience in the entire country than Don Blanscet.

Quig asks the American Bikers in Wisconsin to come to California to try to show the apathetic bikers in my state what it means to be a true American Biker. California as about 1.2 million riders and we have the least amount of freedom. If 1% of our riders were replaced by Wisconsin Bikers...we would definately have our freedom back

I live in Florida and never wear a helmet unless I go into a state requiring it. Then it's a full faced one.

Hey guy, i'm not going to dispute or argue your points here, perhaps helmets can be the cause for more injury. Honestly i think that if you impact something be it a car, hitting the ditch its anybodys guess as to how the helmet will really protect you in such a crash. But i posted an incident that happened to me on the Interstate 1 day as i was coming home from work. As i was passing a semi tanker, a recap let loose just as i was passing, a sizable chunk of rubber flew up and impacted me hitting me directly in the head, had i not had my helmet i may not be here today to talk about it. The force was such that it let some deep marks on the right side rendering the helmet useless, point is perhaps my helmet saved me that day and if anything i will continue to wear one for the road hazards that get thrown up from the highway. Rocks have always been my greatest fear as i have been hit by these things and often wonder what damage would be done if i took one in the grape. Just food for thought.
