70 Years Ago Tomorrow 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese, which lead us into World War II. I hope those of you that know any WWII veterans will let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifice. This greatest generation is what enables us to live in the greatest country in the world. My father passed away 11 years ago, and I did not understand and appreciate the sacrifice he made until he was gone. So let's make it our goal to let all WWII veterans know how much they are appreciated.

My Dad is still around @ 85. Got a pic of the destroyer he was on as well as some of him in uniform. Where he was on that day he doesn't say. Only one of his shipmates still around. To all the members of the Greatest Generation, I thank and salute you.

My dad severed on a flat top in WWI and he passed years ago. I donated a 50mm cannon shell that he brought home with him and the history of his ship to our American Legion Post. He was an ackack gunner. My next door neighbor is a WWII vet so he will get my thanks.

Kai Sayson, you can be proud of him. I had a distant relative who survived that March and the war. What those men endured is staggering.
My father was still 17 years old and five months short of his 18th birthday when he jumped into Normandy with the 82nd AB. He was one of the men who held Saint Mare Iglis. The old ba&*#@d survive D-Day and Market Garden without a scratch! He was bitter that he busted up his shoulder helping recover a broken down Sherman and spend the rest of the war training replacements at Ft Bragg.
When I got a draft notice in '71 I had little choice.
I joined the USAF!

I have been "aboard" the Arizona Memorial several times. Each time reduces me to tears, it is a most humbling experience. Have been on the "Mighty Mo" right off Arizona's bow a couple of times as well. If you ever get to Oahu, this is a "must do" on your list... God Bless our Vets!!!

+1 to what Boatmark said.
I was stationed at Hickam AFB (right next to Pearl Harbor) from 2005-2008. The Arizona memorial is definatley a tear jerking place...especially when you go on the ferry with a lot of WWII vets that are just seeing it for the first time.

There is another memorial (not widely known) on Ford Island northwest of the Arizona memorial. It's the USS Utah. You can see a large part of the ship still....just rusting away in the harbor. It partially sunk on that day too...I believe around 300 men lost their lives on the Utah.

My grandpa was a Omaha beach vet (may he rest in piece). He never once told me the story about D-day....only mentioned that he was there and witnessed "that which would be etched into his soul for eternity".

In regards to the Bataan death march, there is a book I read titled "Bataan Death March, A survivor's Account" by William Dyess. I met him and he spoke to us during my time at the NCO academy. Signed the book for me and told one heck of a story.

Thank them to the fullest extent possible....there are less and less of them as each hour passes.
Phil
