Stock HP is right around 62.

With Stage 1 type mods, it's possible to increase HP by as much as 20%, or to 74.

Just by adding pipes, and an air kit, you're not going to get 20%... and by adding those 2 you'll have to rejet the carb, or you'll likely experience worse performance.

To experience a full 20% increase, you need to rejet the carb, bolt on a ported manifold, probably use a 2 into 1 exhaust, and install a Dyna 3000 ignition unit, as well as some kind of Big Air Kit. (A universal K&N bolt-on filter can accomplish the same.)

I've done all of those on both of my R*s. It's certainly given me the expected gains on one of them, but the other needs some more tweaking to dial it in and get it right.

and while you consider rejetting, port the intake first..with the pipes, porting, jetting and filter you should be hauling pretty good !!!

stock hp on a 1600 is 52hp 88 TQ approx.
on a 1700 62hp 94 tq approx.

on a 1600 stage 2... pipes, air kit, ported manifold, properly jetted carb, Dyna3k, should get somewhere between 15 to 20% increase in HP and about 5 to 8% increase in Tq.

anything more than that will require engine work.

if you go here, they have dyna charts for the 1600 & 1700, looking at the graphs you can see where they are at stock and with the mods

Thanks for correcting me, Erb... at my age, it's getting harder to remember things straight anymore.
