That's pretty cool. Is that what you do for a living? What are they going to do with it after it's restored?

Q & A: This is what I do. I have been working on newer aircraft for the past 12 years. This job is not in Texas, but pays well and is BEYOND interesting.
Lufthansa commissioned the project. The Historical Society in Germany is helping with the funding and documentaries (Discovery, History, and 3 programs in Germany), and will have the aircraft on the historical register.
Lufthansa is supposed to operate the aircraft as a luxury charter, with a 36 seat interior. Should be a flying whorehouse (that's a compliment of the highest order in Texas Aviation) when it through. A trip, which is proposed to be a week to 10 days, will run 9-15K, all inclusive with the hottest destinations in Europe on the bill.
The Engines, Curtiss-Wright R3340's, will most likely run Exxon XC-100 oil. They are turbo-supercharged, and feature waste recovery turbines. check out the twilight takeoff videos on youtube. I am wondering how the engiones will perform with 100 low lead VS the 130 they were originally made for, but the engine guys have that sortedd out.
Also, I am working on the wings for now. Most of the wing stuff will be Hi-Lock fasteners. The fuselage will be solid riveted however. After so many years of doing this, the noise is kind of secondary.

Love this sort of thing.
I've heard of the Super Constellation (Connie) but never heard of the Super Star.
Can you explain what the differences are?
I saw a Qantas Super Connie twilight takeoff (assuming also Curtiss Wrights)....cool flames. Would you post a link to any other similar videos?
I'll look forward to the documentaries.

I've worked quite a few oldies in the past. Stearman, P-41, P-51, T-6, SNJ, SPITFIRE, ME-109, HE-111, Stampe VII, Ercoupe 416D, and even a Muculloch (yes, the chainsaw people) J-2 Gyrocopter. The only other one I've seen is hanging from the ceiling in the Pima County Air Museum in Tuscon, AZ. I don't count hueys, since we still had thousands of them when I was in the Army (87-91).

Super Star is an internal project name, not a designator for the ship. It is a 1956 productiion Super Constellation. The aircraft has 11,000 pounds of supporting documents and log entries. No heavy fingers, 5.5 TONS of paper.
They all have the same engines as far as I know. You can search youtube for Super Constellations, and see this one going in the hangar (Auburn, Maine), and more takeoff videos.
