Glossary or explanation of abbreviations 4 Years, 7 Months ago
Hello everyone, I'm new to The Clinic and my 07 Roadstar. I was just curious if there is an explanation of the abbreviations used on this forum. ie. svs, pms, mmo. I always do my own service work and have used other forums for my other vehicles and toys as a point of refrence for maintenance and repair. This site seems to be loaded with good info, I just need a clue as to what I'm reading. I appreciate any and all help.

Welcome to the clinic Bro. SVS= Sticking Valve Syndrom (I hit my Rev limiter a couple times a day to avoid that problem) It blows out the carbon and the flames shooting out the pipes are kool to. PMS=Primary Metering Screw (located on bottom of Carb) You have to drill out factory brass plug to get to it. MMO= Marvel Mystery Oil (comes in a red bottle) Can get a 32oz bottle at Wally World for around 4 bucks. Add a few ounces to your gas tank around every fifth fill up. Well I hope I have been a help and once again welcome to the site. Ride Safe and God Bless. Bro Mike (OSO-LOCO)

Well, as the Clinic's resident insomniac, I'll be happy to give it a start now ...and everyone else here will be sure to join in later.

As for the ones you mentioned:

SVS (sticky valve syndrome) - A problem that plagues some of the 1700 ('04 & up) R*s caused by carbon buildup on the valves. No one is really sure why we get it, but it has a lot to do with the bikes characteristically running rich right from the factory.

PMS - Primary Mixture Screw - adjusts the air/fuel ration and one of the favorite and most frequent adjustments around these parts

MMO - Marvel Mystery Oil - a gas tank additive used frequently to combat SVS in its early stages.

There's more, and even more getting made up all the time. Sadly, I had the opportunity to make up the SVS acronym last year when I bought the bike used...and it came with a free case of SVS.

Feel free to ask away and enjoy the Clinic!

RK

I guess I'll still send this reply...I started writing this at 2 AM...just forgot to hit send when my 10 month old daughter woke up then and decided it was Schizophrenic Play Time, yelling and laughing and crying...

Ok folks, lets load this thread up with all the acronyms we use around here. I just added some software that will look for acronyms and give readers a mouseover option that explains what the acronym means.

I have to put them in manually, so add your acronyms here so I have a good list to work with
