road etiquette question 1 Year, 4 Months ago
|
|
|
just an opinion question, I have the 'extra' light bar on my silverado
I most often ride with those lights on, there is a toggle switch on it to turn
them on/off, but it is not easily reachable when riding.
I frequently get flashed by oncoming traffic, and there is no way I can safetly
turn them off while riding, so I keep them on all the time.
How does everyone else handle this, do you keep your extra light bar lights on
all the time? I dont want to blind oncoming traffic, but I like the extra
visibility.

My toggle switch was moved to my handlebars on the left side near the headlight high/low beam switch.
I use mine all the time, too, but cut them off at night in city traffic.

When I had my Road Star; and with my current Road King I have the driving lights connected to High Beam only; therefore when you switch to low beam the driving lights are off.
It's an easy mod on the Road Star, you just change wire connections in teh head light bucket.

You might need to align them. They should be no higer than your low beam.
If adjusted correctly, leave them on all the time. If your getting flashed alot I think they need some adjustment. Properly aligned you should not be getting flashed frequently.

I don't have the lightbar, but my LED headlight stays on bright all the time, along with some lower LED foglights. They are aimed in a manner that will sometimes irritate oncoming traffic, and I get the same flashes.
I choose to just wave and smile. They usually get the hint: I would rather you see me and possibly get angry with my headlight, than be able to say you never saw me and pull in front of me.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive, well-preserved body; rather you should skid in sideways, cold pizza in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly trashed, totally worn out, screaming, Yeehaw.\\\\\\

I leave mine on all the time but will probably look into rewiring. I do kill them in town at night.

Mine are switched too and I was always attentive to blinding oncomming traffic since my hi beam is also on 100% of the time day or night. I've never been flashed which surprised me but it must not bother oncomming traffic. The only time I switch to low beam is if there's another bike in front of me just for courtesy.

Really has to be the aim, as I never get flashed, day or night.
There is an awkward hard-to-reach toggle. I usually switch off before day riding, and just switch on before I go night riding. They sure do help to see the road! I love 'em.!
