Cool Pics. Here is a pic of my Uncle, he didn't talk about it either. Don't know why.
He passed away last year and we found these, I don't know if Dad rode or not, they were always doing things together, if he did he didn't say.

River, thats an awesome picture of your uncle on that bike...WWII soldiers never really talked about things that they did in the war...except to another veteran...I use to do HVAC in the retirement community where my father-in-law lived ( a marine during WWII )...and I know most of the retiree's there were from the WWII generation...they didn't talk much unless you asked...

River, That is a great photo. Dont give up there still might be a chance something can turn up about your Dad.
My Dad and his brother were pretty tight also. Just like Me and my brother, and my 2 sons. My Dad didnt get drafted because He got polio in his left arm at 14 years old. My grand mother (immagrant from Holland) worked 24 hours a day rapping my Dad's left arm with steaming hot towls! She did this for over 3 months non stop around the clock. She literally cooked the Polio out of his arm! Too bad,my Dad got polio because at 14 He was amature, Wisconsin, state baseball, south paw side arm pitcher! Polio ended that. My Dad and My Uncle Ray Moved to California during the great depression, When they got there they were living high on the hog compared to life in Wisconsin at the time.Who's up to trying the "side walk Pyramid"?
Cheers!

Re:Well, My dad mentioned......... 1 Year, 3 Months ago
My dad was really quiet, but back when T.V. first came into our part of the country he took me with him to one of his war buddies house to watch a documentary on the war. He talked with the man about breaking into a hut and it was full of bodies and the green fly's swarmed out off the place and all over them.

After the war he would send me around the house with a fly swatter looking for green fly's. He'd go ape if a green fly got in the house.
I went on many a fatal mission looking for green fly's.

I guess since he thought I was there to whack'em he was safe enough.

My uncle was sort of a hell raiser, and when I got back we were talking about stuff soldiers get into, he told me about France, he said they were hid out by a pond, some ducks started landing on the pond. they had been there quite a while and he was bored, so he shot a duck. that caused all the troops to start shooting, he said it like to have scared the old farmer to death.

I miss them both.

River,
Greens flys and Ducks! Great stories. I used to shoot green flys (not in the air) with my Trusty "Ol Red Rider" BB gun. Got pretty good at it after awhile. Was that an Old B-mer Your uncle was on in the picture? I know what you mean by missing them.

We figured out what it was, but I don't remember what it actually was, I have a picture somewhere on my computer of one of those bikes restored.

That picture was taken in France.

Here's the Glenn Curtiss 1907 V8 bike. Pretty impressive 136 mph in 1907!
