taking a break 1 Year, 4 Months ago
well, think that time has come to take a break from here for a bit. been on here since 2006, but recently i haven´t felt like logging in much.

reason? - getting tired of the bull.

now I´m all for a heated discussion on whatever subject and believe discourse is a good way to take on other perspectives and learn something.

however, over the last year or so there have been more and more threads on various subjects (that i believe SHOULD be discussed) where i´m reading stuff that seems like a christian conservative mutual masturbation society. being of Irish descent and a pig headed paddy in that respect, i can´t help but stick my oar in, but I´ve reached the point where i´m just tired of it.

so rather than piss people off or wind myself up, i´m going to take a break. I´ll be checking in from time to time, but won´t be posting much.

hopefully after the election and if the republicans win, things will mellow out a bit.

catch you guys later. keep the wind in your face and your troubles behind you.

matt

That is on just about every forum these days. I used to participate in a boating forum and you want to talk about some dudes with weird ways of thinking. I haven't been on there in quite some time. You will be hard pressed to find a forum as helpful and as active as this one. There is always going to be ideas that we don't agree on, but all it takes is a click of the mouse and you can choose not to participate in those particular threads. And this is from one hard headed irishman to another. Be good man!

I'm a conservative Christian... and I take offense!

You thick-headed Irishmen need a good Bible-thumpin'!

Come on, Guys... this is our forum. You pick and choose what threads you want to read and contribute to. I pass up a bunch every day, but it never once occurred to me that I oughtta check out, just because I find some not to my tastes.

Come on back soon!

Don't go beatin me with your bible man, I was simply saying the same thing you were. I am sure there are many threads that offend/anger/aggravate/etc other people, BUT all they have to do is not participate in the conversation. It's real simple IMO.

I am new here and do not want to speak out of line, but if anyone does not like a thread they have the choice of not reading it. Read the subject lines and if it sounds wrong, leave it. Or just read the Bike related sections.
I am genuinely sorry that you are put off by open debate and you have a valid point that many people (I am NOT talking about anyone I have ever seen here!)communicate their opinions poorly in print.
One of my other interests is BP long rifles. Good historically correct ones, not these Italian knock offs.
For a few years I participated in one of the best online forums devoted to the subject and even moderated the "Powder Keg" where political subjects were allowed. It was pretty open and I left it sort of loose but no insults, racial or ethnic slurs or other remarks were tolerated. But debate, especially political issues, got heated.
The other mods hated open speech and eventually open speech was shut down and nothing that couldn't go in a "G Rated" movie was allowed. In a firearms forum the 2nd Amendment was forbidden!
No one was offended and over the last two years reads and members left in droves.
Sorry, just my two cents.
I respect your position and right to take a break. I hope your mood improves and get back soon.
